Dear Coach: Play Jones More

Graves has more points per shot than jones only because she doesn't shoot much and when she does it is very close to the basket. I respect what graves brings to the team but jones has far more upside.she can match what graves does on defense and boards and has lots more offensive potential. That is why she needs more minutes. Agree they both think too much. Jones could be effective playing closer to the basket. One thing graves needs to do when she gets ball is to either shoot or pass; make a decision. She often holds the ball too long.

the offensive upside is what is in doubt armchair,can she do it ? maybe,but she will have to do it and it seems to me that Graves has had a bad year overall,that injury had set her back,i may be wrong,but it seems like they are finally starting to look to get her the ball more lately and her game is improving

I agree that Jones could be an All SEC player the problem is when will she get it. She didn't get it this year on offense. She is tentative in her play makes a lot of bad decisions. She is very uncomfortable on offense. She has a lot of months to change all that I hope she can I like her athletic ability.

And she can`t go left and that`s a fact if you watch the tapes all her drives to the basket are right.

She certainly has a lot to work on in skills development. Hopefully this off season will be a big one for her.

Isabelle Harrison ---> Senior
Ariel Massengale ---> Senior
Bashaara Graves ---> Junior
Jasmine Jones ---> Junior
Nia Moore ---> Junior
Andraya Carter ---> Sophomore
Jordan Reynolds ---> Sophomore
Mercedes Russell ---> Sophomore
Jannah Tucker ---> Freshman
Jaime Nared ---> Freshman
Alexa Middleton ---> Freshman
Kortney Dunbar ---> Freshman

2015-2016 ---> Class

Jones is better than she was last year, that's for sure. More aggressive, a bit more confident. Not to beat a dead horse, but she is more skilled now than Graves. And keep in mind she is playing half the minutes. Jones likes to drive and pull up--like to see her go all the way to the rim. She is the a player who could be eliciting wows if her development accelerates. As I've said, if I'm Warlick I'm pushing her and pushing her some more.

The problem with Graves is she`s only 6-1-6-2 and has problem with the taller post players. As for Jones it is what it is ! I will say this if the Vols go down early in the field Holly will take a lot of heat. We have a short bench as it is and not to get Nia in the rotation is just crazy. Look at UConn, Duke, Stanford, and ect they have short benches and knew it had to find a way to get playing time for the players who don`t play as much why, Because they needed them.

I like Jones, she is one of the blue collar type players..Kinda like Manning. She just turns the ball over way to much and her shooting percentage is well below that of Graves.

I think she's taller than that. She's about Izzy's height. I think the problem is more mental. It's not like her shots get blocked. She just misses from point blank.

I think Graves is great. She's averaging 10 points a game. She's our 3rd highest scorer among active players. She can set up her man like no one's business. Look how often she gets double teamed. If she isn't getting double teamed, she is very likely going to score.

She's battled through TWO injuries this year which has affected her numbers and play some, but at least she has been able to play. Graves and Izzy make a great combo and having Russell there to learn and contribute is like butter-cream frosting.

Sadly, Graves is great when you are playing the lower powered teams of WCBB but when faced with height & strength, we need to play Russell. Can't see Graves ever getting a shot off against Stanford, ND, or UConn. :(

I have said that from day Graves is a non factor against to to teams even Duke. She just don`t have the height or lift. Right now her problem as i said before is all she do is throw it up a look for the foul.

I wonder why the discussion is either /or. The issue is having both players being somewhat more multi-dimensional. I have been pleased to see all the posts shoot the mid-range open shot when left alone.

And for those of you who don't remember - another post player who took heat from boarders was Glory Johnson - who rushed her shots (layups) through her sophomore year. (my belief (worth a nickel) is that for lack of a point guard with a drill sergeant mentality kept that group of excellent individual athletes from becoming dominant as in Final Four

Remember the recent Middle Tn player who led or nearly led the nation in scoring. She was a 6 1 post player who was always moving and had an arsenal of moves from within 8 feet and the basket. Izzy has acquired many similar moves.
