You punished us righteously for our gluttony (OL, HC and DC), our tobacco usage and arrogance (RS), our juvenilsm (Brooks et al), our pugilism (McDaniel, Schaefer) and You Knows what else.

You were justified and, hopefully, vindicated. For Your Sake, Vanderbilt too?

But, please, O God, please, we beg of you, send Mitch Mustain anywhere but that Hell hole of cheating liars, the rump pit of the SEC, AlaBammer.

Amen.

Bama, ND, UT, and Arkansas. But the last article I read made it sound like Arkansas was tossed in for posterity's sake. Since Bama came up short on the QB position I think they stand a decent chance. Mustain says he wants a place where he will enjoy living, the program at school, and where he will fit in playing football. If I had to choose between Bama and UT on those issues, I'd say start packing the bags for KnoxVegas.

From what I'm hearing is Bama is is last choice. Sounds like it's between Arkansas and Notre Dame. Hopefuly we can sneak in there!

I think Mustain will end up going to Alabama.

They are literally desperate for a QB. I just checked rivals, they havent signed anything but 3 star QB's for the last 4 years. They are desperate for a good prospect at the position. I think UT signing Crompton last year will hurt us, even though he did have major shoulder surgery.

I'm afraid I am going to have to agree. He can walk in and start, I wondered why he hadn't talked about 'Bama, had my breath held. Crompton is too Volcentric and will be held too close to the Vol heart with his Shuler/NC heritage and all.

If he goes to Bama, so be it.

There...he will rot into another Croyle type average QB with zero help from anyone and unrealistic expectations.

Shula or Cutcliffe? hhhmmmm

Rhetorical question: Don't they still pay players in Alabama?

We learned our lesson a few years ago.

i agree i think mitch is headed for bama. you can't blame the kid there is a good chance he can start as a true freshman. i would have liked to see him in orange though. i heard we might be in on a kid from mississippi does anybody have any info. i think his last name is spencer, but i'm not sure. he's a QB recruit.

After watching MM on CTSD the other day, he seemed like a smart guy who is really trying to make the right choice for his future and not just go where everybody wants him to. If he is as smart and level-headed as he sounded, there is no way he would go to the QB graveyard of Bama. And from what I'm hearing Ark. is seriously considering hiring R.Sanders as QB coach, that would be another plus for UT. It seems ND could get him if they want him, if not it's probaly between UT and Ark, and with Coach Cut on our side I like our chances.

Mustain would look good in orange, but it is incredibly difficult to sign two 5 star QBs in back to back years. I think after this year it is obvious that development is just as important as recruiting.

Personally, I would hate to see a kid like Mustain come in and sit the bench behind Crompton for two or three years, or vice versa, especially consdering how hard Crompton worked to recruit that class we got last year. I always had mixed emotions about what happened with Suggs and Stewart.

Cut will clean this mess up in a hurry. In the mean time, I would like to see UT land some O linemen, a few D backs, and another big time receiver. If we don't get a five star QB this year, I have confidence that UT will pick one up next year.

Why would a 5-star QB go to Alabama, though? I mean, really, I'm not kidding.

The only way it would make sense would be if the kid was from Bammerland...

Arkansas is full of Bammer wannabees. I think that immediate playing time is a big lure, and that Bama needs a QB desparately. You make a good point. Seems like the offensive system is not exactly built around showcasing a QB's arm. They would much rather grind it out....wait a minute, this is sounding all too familiar to my beloved Vols.

It only takes one or two strong years to become a top NFL QB pick so it is possible to make the argument that Mustain could take a redshirt, and wait until he either wins the job outright or Crompton graduates/moves on. Or even come in and compete like Stewart then check out to another school with a given starting sitch. If you believe you are pro material, then you will have to beat out the Cromptons of the world or, like back in the Kosar/Vinnie etc days of Miami, you waited your turn.

And even then the black QBs won't go there ala Tee and Jamarcus Russell.

i agree with that. i had mixed feelings too about cj leak, cj was a starter as a freshmen at wake forrest.
the brandon stewart and peyton manning situation too, though no doubt fulmer made the right decision in benching cj and playing peyton over brandon stewart. its just tough to see those guys ride the pine when they no doubt could start somewhere else.

i just hope the crompton surgery isnt as severe as first thought, and he can get back to 100%

let me start off by saying i hate alabama...however, if mustain could come in and push alabama to 2 or 3 nine win seasons (doubtful but possible) then the kid would be huge....lots of closet bama fans out there....

I think the really great players dont't worry about who has signed before him especially if that player hasn"t won a starting position yet. The real superstars have big egos.

I hope we get either Mustain or this kid from Texas that has committed to Ole Miss for the following reasons: 1) Crompton may not recover from the shoulder injury 2) I prefer to sign a Qb with each class, and try to redshirt him the first year, rather signing multiple in one class ever 3 or four years as we have done in the past. Finally you keep him from going to a competitor like Bama. If they transfer you can make it more difficult to transfer within the conference (unless they recently changed the transfer rules).

I believe Shula (a super good guy / coaching ability still a ?) will land a good qb. Let's face it, he's been against the wall w recruiting repercussions, a very late start, practicing w/o a full coaching staff, practicing w substitute players that don't (& won't) play assigned positions. I believe Shula is similiar Richt's earlier coaching days & going riding that learning curve. Coach Shula contrary to what some here think is a class act & deserves a clean slate. I really don't feel ANY program in the SEC can claim they are a virgin to NCAA investigations...

Now to I'm not sure Arkansas' best will become an Alabama catch but Shula will land a good qb from somewhere.

Shula is the best thing to happen to Bammers since the Bear died. :clapping:

He spent two seasons as quarterbacks coach for the Miami Dolphins and in Shula’s two seasons as quarterbacks coach, Jay Fiedler led the Dolphins to a 21-10 record as a starter. If we tout Phil as an OL guru, then Shula is a QB guru.

I don't think Shula is anywhere close to QB guru status, and don't understand how that relates to the way CPF is viewed. I thought Jay Fielder was awful. I think the Bama offense is self limiting.
