Maybe Bama deserves Mustain more than UT. Once Bama lost Prothro they had a fairly one-demensional offense and they made the most of it. UT had a one deminsional offense and couldn't do squat.

I don't think Shula is anywhere close to QB guru status, and don't understand how that relates to the way CPF is viewed. I thought Jay Fielder was awful. I think the Bama offense is self limiting.
Schula was dealt two terrible OT and Prothro's injury, there wasn't much he could do with what he had. He's a bright guy and knew to let his defense keep him in games ala 6-3.

Shula was a QB, coached QBs and has said he is responsible for the QBs. Like Phil, who was an OL, coached the Ol, this is where they feel the most comfortable and have demonstrated the most expertise.

Much like we've lamented that QB's didn't improve under Sanders/Fulmer - Croyle didn't seem to improve under Shula. I know he was hurt for much of his career but he did not appear any better this year than in the previous years he played.

He over threw receivers on the deep ball on a pretty frequent basis (one or two in the Tennessee game). I would bet he hit 50% or less of the deep passes that were open.

In short, I haven't seen a great deal of evidence that Shula is a great QB coach or great coach at all for that matter. He is a class guy but that doesn't win games.

Let's face it sometimes you're simply limited by resources. Croyle in my opinion was never in the league (talent wise) as let's say Ainge. That said and the fact that Croyle was injuried the MAJORITY of his time at AL really put a crimp on his development. Unlike Ainge's situation. On the other hand, Clausen was in my opinion and also Nick Saban's (no association) simply did not have the SEC grade talent.

I disagree completely. Croyle has talent equivalent or better than Ainge. He played some in every season he was at UA. He is contending for the #3 draft position at QB behind Matt Leinhart and Jay Cutler.

That's if three others don't come in. He's possibly second round now. If these others come in then he could be 3rd or 4th round.

Yes, I think the position is among seniors - there are several strong juniors that could enter the draft (Gaither, Pinegar, etc.)

I'm surprised he's rated as high given his "Ming" Croyle reputation. He does have a great arm though. I'd bet 3rd round but still among top 5 seniors.

A lot of it has to do with the QB class coming out. Have you seen the list of QB's coming out? Take that list and look at their stats and schedules they played. I'll give Croyle the fact that he did have somewhat decent stats in a difficult and purely defensive conference this year.

Bammer had two OT who couldn't block my grandmother (who's dead). Croyle took a beating all year. Half the time (like in our game) he looked like all he wanted to do was throw the damn thing before he got pummelled.

Oh, btw, thanks Randy Sanders for the three points.

Idiot.

Man, did you have to bring up that name(Randy Sanders). I was hoping to purge that from my memory bank! :bad:
