Dear new coach whoever

That should be the goal but changing coaches every 3 years guarantees that you'll never win one.
So does sticking with a coach who produces only good enough. I was very disappointed at time of hire. I calmed down and said no choice but to give it a chance. Year one, meh. Year 2, wow! Maybe this is what we've been waiting for! Year 3, seeing the same red flags we saw under last 3 coaches.
I am concerned that Tennessee is going to be perpetually a 7-5 to 8-4 team.

BOTTOM LINE! We are extremely short on STUDS! Secondary is awful! Make shift O-Line has held its own, but they are subpar for the SEC. WR are weak for the offense we are trying to run. We need leaders…we need players with the will to win and a staff that’s gonna push them to be that. Stop letting the players run this team. Leadership is ALWAYS visible on winning teams.

I'm speaking to the odds. Right now there are 133 division 1 football programs out there and there is 1 Kirby Smart.

Of course you want to pursue excellence at the highest level.
There are 133 FBS teams, not division I teams. Div I includes FCS.

UGA ran off a 10-2 coach because he wasn’t good enough and now they are on the verge of 3 Nattys in a row with their new one.
That was after multiple 10 win seasons. And Georgia has a much, much better recruiting base than the state of Tennessee. They always had top 10 classes by default. But thats technically underperforning since Georgia is one of the states with the most talent, yet no in state competition for those top recruits.

First let me tell you I am impressed with your courage to consider joining our dumpster fire. I hear you are a great offensive mind. However, I think you are coming into something you don't fully understand.
At first you will see great support here on Volnation. Our fanbase has a tendency to worship our coaches. Don't let this fool you, because it was the EXACT same way with our previous 3 coaches. This fanbase will turn on you, even the coach worshippers. It is a cycle. Coach announced...great support...not much progress...support lost. You can look back over Volnation for the past 3 hires and confirm this. This even happened with the Kiffin hire. These coach worshippers will act like they never liked your hire.
We have been rebuilding for over a decade and most fans are sick of it.
If this doesn't scare you off, you need to come in here and win. Make it happen. We don't need excuses or coach speak cliche lessons...we need to win...NOW. We must see you win at hiring a staff, recruiting, and most importantly ON THE FIELD. We are tired of being a joke and will accept nothing less.
I'll go with two decades

The problem I think we all experience is that we are at the point now where if you don't produce Nick Saban/Kirby Smart results, you suck.

Someone who is consistently 9-3, 10-2 is a bum. Well, good luck on finding the next one of those.

Hell, even after the first title, there were people who still thought Kirby wasn't that good.
I will admit that it doesn't help when a team like Mizzou, Kentucky, and other mid tier programs string together 10 win seasons. If you can do it there, fans of larger fanbases demand they get the same results.

And 7 or 8 wins, will still not be enough to get the Vols in the expanded playoffs next season or ever. With the changes coming to college football, there is going to be more fans demanding coaching changes in the top money making programs like TN.

Just like the pros, coaching changes and huge buyouts will just be a regular occurance for coaches who can't cut it. I just don't know if some of you will be able to hanle it.

How many 11 win seasons and NY6 bowl wins over top 10 teams does UK and Missouri have?
They were just the latest examples in the conference of a 10 win season. But its always the mindset of looking at the new shiny toy on the block. It usually isn't sustained at those smaller schools or ifvit us the coach is hired away.

Duke looked great earlier in the year. Arlansas looked awesome two seasons ago. TCU was in the championship last year. Louisville and Kansas looks good now.

It's always someone different, but usually not sustained at those smaller schools. But some fans see success elsewhere as it is unraveling and say "why can't we have that?" I don't agree with that sentiment, just explaining why I think some have it.

After the desert of failure we have been in for so many years I’m willing to have the patience endure a number of 8, 9 win seasons.

Nah, Heupel needs to replicate what Saban has done and is doing at Bama and what Smart is currently doing too. DYNASTY, that's the only answer. /s

I know you're blue font here but seriously some people don't understand how much better the programs were before saban and smart took them over compared to how much of a dumpster fire ours was when huepel took over.

Yes schula had only won 6 games in 2006 but In 2005 he had won 10.

Richt won 10 games the year he was fired.

Pruitt won 3 the year he was fired and never won more than 7 and had to cheat to do it.

8 games being the floor this year wasn't out of the ballpark. We knew this team would stop back some...at least you knew it you were a reasonable fan.

That’s just not realistic.
Then what is the goal that people are happy with? 10-2 again this year and it was a success or is 9-4 (thinking we win the last game and bowl) a failure?
My point is, what is the measuring stick to say Success vs failure if championships aren’t the goal. CJH could go 10-2 for three years straight and people would call him a failure because he couldn’t win an SEC championship or a get us to top 4 finish.

Bama ran off 3 coaches and then found Saban and started winning nattys

Georgia fired Richt who won 10 or more games TEN TIMES and then they found Kirby and started winning nattys

LSU fired arguably the best coach they ever had who won 10 or more games seven times and went to 2 nattys. Then they found Coach O and won a natty again.

Ohio State got rid of Tressel and then reloaded with Meyer and then Day and they haven't missed a beat.

People act like this is impossible to do but teams literally do it all the time.

Great statement , my question would be what major schools don’t do that to their coach? I mean Bama fans were going crazy after one loss to Texas so idk if it’s a fair comparison , because our coaches have legitimately been awful . I don’t think hanging on to Dooley jones or Pruitt and giving them support would have made them win but what do I know . I just get tired of people saying TN fans are awful when other fan bases are the same A and M just paid 75 mil to fire a winning coach

This is just the way it is, over and over, and over. It is hilarious to me that we had the same conversations about Butch that we did with Dooley (give him time, he really wants to be here, he has a great pedigree, he has been successful everywhere he's been, he has us on the right path, we are in so much a better place than before). Then we had the same conversations when pruitt was here. Now we are having the same conversations about Heupel.

PS. here's $9 million dollars to help you get motivated to hire good coaches and recruit good talent, have the team coached and game ready on Saturday, evaluate the team by watching game film, holding pressers etc
