Don't want to take the time to look it up but Tenneesse bacame a University around 20 to 30 years before Texas became a University! Not just that but Texas would now be University of Mexico if not for Tennessee fighters saving them!!
Almost a century, actually. University of Tennessee first opened as Blount College in 1794. University of Texas didn't open its doors until 1883. That's 89 years later.

Heck, UT was a college/university more than 50 years before Texas even became a state, much less established a university.

And Amen to them being part of the Mexican university system if it weren't for us. They should remember that, and walk humbly with their hats in hand when Tennesseans are around.

Go Vols!

A few months back, I was having a beer at a place near my home here in Oregon and a guy wearing Texas swag was sitting nearby. Another guy sitting closer to me noticed my UT hat and struck up a conversation with me about the Vols. At some point, he brought-up the question of "real UT" and I dutifully pointed-out that UT preceded the existence of Texas as a state. The Texas fan nodded, rolled his eyes and said, "Yeah, and thanks for Davy Crockett," before knocking back his drink.

I had to laugh, because I could tell he's heard that from Tennessee fans before.

What would be neat is a Tennessee vs. Texas SEC Championship Game this coming season.........

And since we don't play one another in the regular season, we could both be 12-0 going into Atlanta. That would be cool.

Go Vols!
Lots of folks have Georgia as a lock for the SECCG. They've got away games versus Alabama, Texas, and Ole Miss. At Kentucky won't be easy, and a home game versus Auburn. And, I like the fact they play us the week after playing at Ole Miss.

the story lines on this matchup have always been there. If both teams playing at high level the UT/Tex these games could set up a good new rivalry game
I think it’d be cool if they did something like a rotating trophy a la the Beer Barrel or the Paul Bunyan statue the Michigan schools play for, make it a Davy Crockett or Sam Houston statuette or something, and/or the previous matchup’s winner gets to wear the interlocking UT on their uniform for the game.

Well, don’t get your hopes too high for that.🤣😂🤣 How about UGA vs the real UT in an SEC Championship? Obviously I’m referring to the UT from the great state of Tennessee.

Don’t get me wrong, I want to destroy the Vols every time we play. Apologies, but it’s just CFB ptsd from being a GA fan in the 90’s! I can’t help it. But I’m not gonna sit here and watch some new narcissistic conference member come in claim things they haven’t earned. UT is the Vols. Sure, overall I hate them, in a football sense, but I love to hate them. Screw Texas!!!! I mean really SCREW TEXAS!!!! That’s all I have to say, aside from, you Vols are my UT, and bc it’s not a Fall weekend, I hope you all have a great weekend. 🤣😂🤣.
