Had never heard that before. Great stuff. Thanks for sharing.
A Paul Harvey "rest of the story" follow up:

1) The reason those guys said something to me, and our coach was threatened was due to us causing some of those guys to lose money on their bets. I was a naive suburbanite who had no idea they would bet on HS games.

2) Chattanooga was loaded with talent that year. Arguably the strongest year ever with 3 D1 signees.
Jimmy Braddock from Baylor- UNC, Parade All American -IMO would have been a Vol if not for the UNC offer.
James Williams from Howard - Vandy
Michael Poole from Riverside - Vol
The rest of those guys at Howard were juniors.

3) 5 of our 10 losses my senior year were to Brainerd (who was at least the equal of Howard) and Howard. One of our other losses was to Tullahoma who had future Vol Seth McDonald.

Thanks. That’s some great stuff. Of course, the gambling crowd was mad, but geez, on high school games is something else.

Seth McDonald was some sort of gift scholarship at UT. Rarely played. Frank Johnson was actually Tullahoma's best player

Uros made 47% of his free throws. 12 percentage points BETTER than Seth’s 35%. Hard to believe, but I guess SM’s is a much smaller sample size AND there’s more pressure when only taking 1 or 2 every other game in mop up duty.

Seth only weighed about 190 as a freshman so he needed lots of strength and weight. Seems like he had a knee issue, as well.

I was at that game. I was a freshman at Tenn Tech and decided to take my girlfriend's dad, because he was a Vol fan, but had never been to a game. I was so mad when I realized what was happening, because I wanted him to see an exciting, high scoring game. Actually, he really got into it and had a good time, due to all the catcalls from Tenn fans.
