Defending My Vols!

The UGA and SC games made people mistakenly believe that our days of getting boat raced by quality opponents might have come to an end. I agree with your point, but the common fan is never going to care about nuance when the scoreboard is ugly . . . even when the nuance is extremely obvious.

Very well put! :good!:

effort in losses, especially blowout losses, will always be questioned. Sometimes rightfully so. When I see it, I think about times where I wanted the game to be over as me and my team were getting our asses handed to us. We knew it was coming but tried to fight anyway. Once the bus starts rolling on you though, it flat out sucks. Anyone that's been in that position knows it. And 99.9% of the people that have been in that position know damn well that mentally and physically you aren't at the same level as when the game started or when it was tight earlier. It's called being dejected during an ass whipping and it happens.

I think the problem comes from off-season expectations. All off-season all we heard about was how much Butch gets it and the team has bought in, etc.

What we're seeing (after a brutal stretch of games) is the same lethargic effort that came to define Dooley's last days.

As much as we, as fans, were hoping that the team had changed for the better (the UGA and SC games added to those hopes) we're faced with the reality that UT hasn't arrived.

I think you've got to be really careful when talking about effort. The fact is, we've got a lot of guys on the field right now that either just shouldn't be there or at least shouldn't be asked to do some of the things they're forced to do. There's a difference between lack of effort and limited ability.

thinking we had arrived or will arrive at any point prior to 2 years from now is the issue. Unfortunately, until we get the untalented srs that haven't won anything off campus and new talent that isn't butthurt over the last 4 years of bad coaching, expectations must be tempered.
I feel for the srs. They and their teammates have been undermanned and undercoached for their careers.
Doesn't mean JS has to keep caving inside everytime though. No way that's what Strip is coaching.

Go get yourself some orange pants! Football is a business!!! Wins count!!! The coaches are paid big money to win games!!!!!

This is such a moronic approach to our sitituation. Yes it is a statement of facts that clearly shows you don't Get It.

In this situation, tell me where CBJ and staff have not earned the money they are paid. His actions, the staffs actions speak volumes by just looking at the fixes, in areas that others coaches would have no touch or address. CBJ is addressing all the issues and multitasking in the process. There is that word again "process".

This team was really bad in a lot of areas not often addressed by coaches at other universities. For example, APR, dicsipline, buzz, conditioning, strength, attitude, recruiting, practices, clear cut visions/goals, family, attitude, cultural changes, accountability, responsibility and so many more.

You seem to be the type that is will to throw someone else's money at the problem without contributing a dime and then complain about it when it does not go your way or on your schedule.

You need to take a Buisness class and focus on the four basic essential resources to running a successful business: Time, Manpower, Costs, and Training (experience).

I would love to see the reaction of the players if one one the posters on this board was critical of CBJ or staff conveyed their feelings to a player on the team....result would be that you would probably be thanking coach Jones for saving your a$$ because on the players discipline he has instilled.

I see we have a lot of coaches up off the couch. Either support the team, coaches and athletic department or get back on the couch. I never realized we had so many non productive members of society until i read VN.

Give it their all and play their guts out every Saturday?!! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!! Dude, what team have you been following the 4 weeks? If they gave it their all like you claim then they wouldn't let all of the backbreaking plays against us happen. See Auburn special teams performance for reference. Did half of the kickoff and punt teams look like they GAVE IT THEIR ALL FOR TN ON THOSE RETURNS?!! UHH NO!

Fun thread.

Couple of FYIs from my end…

I live in California, so I wasn't posting at 3:30am, but 12:30am. I always check VolNation before going to bed and am thankful for Freak's hard work in maintaining this site. (But I'm not above posting at 3am either :D )

Never said we have to hide from the truth that we've played crappy at times this year. Just don't like bashing players (which in my mind = wishing they were not on the team or would hurry on and get out of here).

Not concerned about hurting "they whittle fewins", Count. But it's one thing to say a guy played terrible and another thing to have a culture of despising players who wear the Orange. You may not agree, but I don't think effort has been the problem this year.

Go Vols!!

I have not bashed individual players and I agree with you 100%. They have been dealt a crappy hand, however they can put some salve on the wounds if they come to play. They have to strap it on and produce two wins against teams that they are matched pretty even with. The rest is really up to them and how much they want to start something special going in to next yr.

I couldn't have said it better. Lick your wounds and finish this season with a bang. Its there for the taking it all depends on how bad our guys want it. GO VOLS!

If there's one thing Butch Jones truly despises from the bottom of his soul, it's loafing. You can tell just by the way he carries himself.
