The UGA and SC games made people mistakenly believe that our days of getting boat raced by quality opponents might have come to an end. I agree with your point, but the common fan is never going to care about nuance when the scoreboard is ugly . . . even when the nuance is extremely obvious.
Very well put! :good!:
effort in losses, especially blowout losses, will always be questioned. Sometimes rightfully so. When I see it, I think about times where I wanted the game to be over as me and my team were getting our asses handed to us. We knew it was coming but tried to fight anyway. Once the bus starts rolling on you though, it flat out sucks. Anyone that's been in that position knows it. And 99.9% of the people that have been in that position know damn well that mentally and physically you aren't at the same level as when the game started or when it was tight earlier. It's called being dejected during an ass whipping and it happens.
I think the problem comes from off-season expectations. All off-season all we heard about was how much Butch gets it and the team has bought in, etc.
What we're seeing (after a brutal stretch of games) is the same lethargic effort that came to define Dooley's last days.
As much as we, as fans, were hoping that the team had changed for the better (the UGA and SC games added to those hopes) we're faced with the reality that UT hasn't arrived.
