Nope. Common economic fallacy, but war has nothing to do with economic advancement. Correlation, not causation. You can't get richer by diverting resources into war efforts. If you could then we should declare a perpetual global paintball war, and divert our resources into winning it.
When you look at the amount of training we do, especially bi-lateral and multi-lateral training with friendly nations, you could conclude that we've done that.
This is in addition to the operations in at least 4 theaters and forces stationed throughout Europe and Asia. Add in the cost of high-tech munitions being used in those operations and we're driving a lot of economic activity. Seems to me as though the defense industry is a pretty important part of our economy.
