Defense has officially quit

They were worn down, and made huge stops at the end of the game to give us a shot at scoring multiple times.

They played with more grit than I've seen from a UT team in at least 3 years. They did not quit, they had no help from the offense.

Typical Tennessee they have quit again! What is wrong with these people?
They kept us in the game. I was sweating my tail off cheering and can only imagine how bad they felt. They took every challenge and for the most part made the best of it, I am proud of how the D responded today. There is no way you can expect a defense to be on the field as much as they were in the first quarter and first half to be as responsive in the second half. Check the stats, they preformed admirably.

They didn't quit. They need to be coached up... too many times leverage and contain was lost. They need schemes to give them more opportunities to succeed. They need the O to take advantage of opportunities... of course the O's schemes leave a lot to be desired too.

D played very well in the first half btw.

AJ played a very good game as did Brewer and Sapp.

What kind of scheme would you implement on defense that would give them more opportunities to succeed?

The tenacity of the defense in the 1st quarter was inspiring, but, we quickly returned to our consistency the rest of the game....hope that makes sense

well said. you lose contain and leverage when the other team is faster than you....they were faster than us.

S. Ala, UK, Vandy, we should be able to hang athletically. I would hope Mizzou too, but don't know much about them.

Never really felt like the D quit. They got beat and abused a couple times but didn't quit.

Well... I don't think it would have taken me 3 or 4 series before I realized I couldn't leave the QB uncovered. I believe that Wilcox would have put his CB's in man and pressured the new QB right away. Considering that UF has struggled to gain confidence in their own passing game... I think I would have had to have pressured them more.

I don't think Christian would have been responsible for setting the edge when the QB scored on that keeper.

No... it isn't hard to be in position even if you aren't as fast as the other guy. There was one occasion where 54 did an absolutely outstanding job of keeping contain against that QB run. By no stretch is he as fast.

Bama's LB's are seldom as fast as the RB's they keep contained... but they are also seldom out of position.

It's hard for a layman to differentiate between scheme and execution?

are you seriously comparing our talent with Bama's?

It can be. However it becomes a moot point if players are repeatedly out of position in the same way. Whether scheme or lack of preparation... the result is the same.

No. I am simply stating the FACT that your guy who sets containment DOES NOT have to be faster than the RB he will turn back inside or else flatten out.

But ftr, the 3-4 even under Saban favors size over speed at LB and even in the secondary. His guys are just almost NEVER out of position.
