Listening to the call in show after game and a caller made an interesting point. If you score 40 points in an SEC game you should win it. Now, for better part of the season I've really payed close attention to the DB's and have noticed that they really are not that talented. They just don't carry themselves-movements, way they walk and run and being schooled all year long! Horrid! Having said that, Chavis is constantly talked about being premier DC. It seems to me he was only good when he had talent on D but couldn't scheme to make up the difference and it shows at LSU. I'll hang up and listen now!

We have no pass rush at all. Our DBs can not cover a 50 year old guy. And probaly coaching also has to do with it. We were not that bad last year on defense.

We have the same players from last year unless you think Austin Johnson and Lanier were game changers. That tells you all you need to know because last I checked we were not this awful on that side if the ball last year.

TALENT.
Very few defensive coaches draw up schemes that tell players to get blocked, stay blocked, lose contain, lose your man in coverage, and play the ball terribly in the air.

Coleman, Teague, Gordon, Moore, AJ, Maggit, J Smith, McNeil, Couch, McCullers, Miller, and Sentimore were ALL rated 4* or better when we recruited them. Trust me, IT IS COACHING.

Dools + his recruits + his D staff's coaching = Lack of performance.

If you don't have guys in the secondary that can handle man coverage, you use cover two and other zone coverage schemes. Period. Analysis is over.

But Sal/Dools continue to use man. Period. Analysis is over.

Monte and Wilcox used their versions of cover two as their base coverage. Result = better rated defenses. Period. Analysis is over.

If you had Monte's and Wilcox's past D's to go with Chaney's current O: 7 to 8 wins in 2012 with 2 games yet to play.

If you use zone as your base coverage while you are recruiting better/faster players in the secondary while the team is winning games and going to good bowls; you then get the opportunity to successfully switch to man coverage over time.

Final result for not using cover 2 and other zone combos this season is losing more games and firing an incompetent head coach. Period. Analysis is over.

McNeil can play. He will develop. McCullers us huge, but inexperienced. Maggitt can not stay healthy. Everybody else you named is a bust.

They're a bust because they're not being coached properly. If Smart had this bunch, there's no way they play this poorly.

You know Sal is trying to run the Alabama defense with Tennessee players. Saban has 4 and 5 star guys there and Dooley has recruited 2,3 and 4 star guys. You need guys that can cover man to man. We do not have that. Therefore you need to coach to what you have.

Sal coached there too. Same technique. Same scheme. Play calling is different. But what is expected from the different positions on defense is they same. Most of our players on defense are just not good enough to do it.
Wicox hid them. Sal exposed them. But that is the defense he runs. Fire him if you like. At a school with ability and talent he will look like he did the rest of his career. And that is a pretty damn good defensive coach.

coaching period. This defense has more talent and more experience then the defense that ranked 27th overall last year. It is totally coaching. I'd kill to have last year's defense back and I hated it at the time.

You have the same pathetic players. You lost the same games as last year. What else you want?

It's 100% coaching... do we have the talent to be top 5 defense in the country? No. But my God, they should at least be able to consistently hold the caliber of offenses they have played to under 25 points. Seriously I'm a life long fan of a team that in their best years are middle of the pack, and we fielded defenses that were at least sufficient. The SEC is not exactly known for their explosive offenses...

Poor talent, poor coaching, and poor recruiting. Something has to change at the top to break the cycle. DB's are horribly slow.

Last year's defense performed light years better in far worse conditions. Last year we had a crippled offense that kept the defense constantly on the field and they still performed exponentially better. If we had Wilcox or at the very least someone competent we would be at min 7-3 and making A run at A sec east championship with this high powered offense.

It's coaching. And it's simple coaching. DBs are taught in middle school tO turn and look for the ball. Our guys don't do that.

Scoreboard matters.
We lost to all the good teams last and this year. I see no difference.

We had this "high powered" offense all year long. Look at all the big games. We could not score on UF (20) & UA (13). UGA & South Carolina we scored, but after the fact. Both games were comeback attempts. At no time did this "high powered" offense come out and put a good team on its heels in a big game. This is offense is good for accumulating stats. But not good for coming out and winning games. See second half yesterday and those staggering 7 points. Seven. That is really "high powered" huh?

You may be correct about coaching, but your reasoning is flawed. So none of our players played in middle school or are our coaches insisting they ignore fundementals?
