Everyone who has been saying that no longer is true just got a reality check.

UT's prolific offense just got stifled by a championship caliber defense.

The Vols may still back their way into the playoffs. If they are lucky enough to get in, they better tighten up the D.

Go Vols!

Yea….not really. But it sounds like a really nice cliche. Outsciting your opponent usually is the deciding factor….

Defense was the only thing keeping us in this game
The defense gave up 24 points in the first half. They were the reason this game was over at the start of the 2nd quarter. They came out flat and our OL came out scared to death with zero composure. Hooker also played terrible and held onto the ball way too long and wasn’t willing to take off when the run was there. Scheme and big breaks are the reason why this team went into this game 8-0 and ranked number 1. It wasn’t because we have an elite roster. The secondary is garbage whether it be talent or coaching or a combination of the 2 and our OL isn’t anywhere near as good as numbers suggest. Hopefully we can get the talent needed to close the gap in those positions though. This team has significantly overachieved with the talent it has. Next year will certainly be a step back from what we’ve done this year simply because we’re losing the best players from a roster that is middle of the pack as far as talent goes, but by 2024 we should have the talent we need where we’re not significantly outmatched as far as talent is concerned

The whole quote is “offense sells tickets but defense wins championships.” And just because it’s dated, like Neyland’s Maxims, it doesn’t make it any less true. If you doubt, watch the National Championship of 92 where a team with a Dominant O and decent D faced off with a team with a dominant D and a decent O…it was telling! Anyway, let’s regroup and win out! GBO!

I'll take 9-11 wins every season even if the defense is always questionable

Defense definitely wins Championships.

1992 Alabama, 1998 Tennessee, 2001 Miami, 2003 LSU, etc. were teams that had meh offenses but great defenses that propelled them to National Titles. However, the best combo is great QB play and great defense.

Our defense has gotten remarkable better as season has gone on. I don't blame today on defense, the offense really struggled to get into the end zone.

However, today showed defense wins but it was because Georgia just had an amazing defense that won the line of scrimmage fight and covered our WRs well forcing Hooker to get rattled.

Been saying this and have gotten flames for it. People want to say oh it’s an offensive game now and defense really doesn’t matter. That’s BS. Unless our defense improves significantly we aren’t winning any championships.

It wasn’t that their defense was that good. Our qb just played like ass. If he hits any of those deep balls this game is completely different. Instead he looked like Milton air mailing it.

Hooker is still the best Qb in the country IMHO, but I think he choked under the moment.

I think if we play UGA in the playoff in a neutral environment, we’ll beat them. Seriously, we didn’t play our game. And we still were right there.

Georgia didn't score but 3 points in the second half, it felt like they let up but be that as it may the defense kept the game within reach if the offense could have gotten itself together in some way form or fashion the game was still winnable, offense was the worse of the two tonight hands down.

UGA traded Mark Richt for Kirby Smart because he couldn't get to the championship level. What it sounds like to me is that's what you prefer. 'Keep scoring points like mad....until we face the champions, then its ok if we can't win that one.' Is that you?

9-11 wins is what Tennessee had in the 1990s i would take that in a New York minute

Anyone saying otherwise is not thinking critically. After what just happened, it's blatantly obvious. UGA has a championship defense. UT does not.

I would even say UT's offense is better than UGA's offense. The difference was that UT couldn't get going.

Talent wins championships. We need it all over.

I agree that HH played poorly, but there is more to it than HH missing a couple of deep balls.
