Defense Wins Championships

W.Michigan was 9th in total defense and 13th in passing defense when he was there. He was the DC for North Dakota St when they went 10-1. TCU won Conference USA while he was there. I think Willie Mack will be a great coach for us.

Really should've written that better. He's the only guy that's not known nationally as a coach. But he coached the TCU DBs up very good.

No prob Lockdown1, I was jus trying to ease your mind about Willie Mack. I'm not worried about him at all.

The thread title says it all. I would take a great Defense over a great Offense anyday. Look at the ppg allowed for the D's of the past national champs...

2008 gators 12.9
2007 LSU 19.9 (including two crazy 3 OT games where they allowed 43 & 50 points)
2006 gators 13.5
2005 Texas 16.3
2004 USC 13.0
2003 LSU 11.0
2002 OSU 13.0
2001 Miami 9.75
2000 OU 14.9
1999 FSU 16.9
1998 TENNESSEE 14.5

you will see several D-Line guys moved to the O-Line, book it.

My thoughts as well Rexvol,,,, if you are third team on the dline or only getting in on 3rd and longs vs playing every down, you move willingly. The plus side of this is many ex d line guys that move to the offensive side take their mean streak with them.

Not ot put them down too hard, but weren't they in the BIG EAST then?

No matter. I remember that year and they were playing at a whole different level than everybody else in the country! The 01 Miami team and the 04/05 Southern Cal teams remind me of each other in that regard.

I had forgotten just how good Miami's D was in '01 untill I started looking up stats. They could bring the wood! It makes it easy to win when you only have to score 10+ points a game.

You forgot about the 2011 Vols!

the current recruits dont care about Purdue, they want to see whats on Shields-Watkins.
I agree, and if I was a QB recruit, I might be a little leery as well considering Reaves history at SoCar...

he still has a lot to prove IMO

You know what doesn't win championships.. having only 8 passing touchdowns and 17 picks. Or maybe making a habit of turning the ball over in the red zone.
