Defensive changes for 2023

There has to be a young DB coach out there that's dialed into today's college game that could light a fire under this secondary. Those guys just can't just solely exist on the offensive side of the ball. Has to be a counterpart out there to Golesh, Briles and Lebby's of the world.
True, I just want some decent competence! Is our Secondary talent “elite”? No, however it is still SEC level talent and there is NO EXCUSE for it to be as bad as it is! Let’s hope CJH makes a swift decision!

You’ve got jokes. Garner is a keeper 10 times out of 10.
Sorry, that’s just where I’m at. I’m absolutely convinced Banks has to go, and I believe whoever comes in has to have the right to bring in their guy. I wasn’t all that impressed with Elerbee, but he’s proven to be a really good coach.

The defense improved a lot this year over last year.
You’d have to show me the math on that. UT ranks 127 out of 131 in pass defense.
I’ll concede that the run defense improved, but overall UT finished 86 in total defense. Last year 90th.
That’s not a lot. That’s marginal ant best, and when you start figuring other factors, it’s not really worth mentioning. When you also consider that Banks is a DB coach, this is the area the team ought to see the biggest gains. It’s going backwards.

I’d fire the entire defensive staff (yes, including Garner). Bring in a proven DC coach who can assemble his entire staff.
WTF!?!?!? Garner is arguably the best all around Dline coach in the country and a good recruiter. He's been an integral part of our success this year with the improvement up front.

I’m not sold on Banks and Martinez.

We need to give Willie Martinez a one way ticket to Tahiti.
For me Martinez is a case of what-goes-around-comes-around. Years ago I laughed out loud repeatedly to my Georgia buddy with Martinez as their DB coach, laughing even louder when they promoted him to DC. Hopefully his stint in Knoxville is short lived.

Expecting CJH to make significant coaching changes/ upgrades on D very soon.

- McDonald to ILB
- Charles and Slaughter back to safety
- More standup rushing for Pearce and Josephs
- Playing more Seminole defense with Herring also in to rush with Pearce, Josephs, Barron and Harrison all at the same time.
This is dumb lol.. McDonald needs to start over McCullough. Jaylens time has come to an end he’s a liability..

Also this is the Sec. You gotta be 235 plus to play backer
we don’t have 1 SEC positions group besides the D line. Everything else is weak as hell
