OK, there are threads for the best running play and pass play in UT history. What do you guys think is the best defensive play? My vote is for Dale Jones int of Mike Shula in the 85 Bama game. That was incredible!

Can't remember the guys name, but I think it was in the Gator Bowl way back when, against Syracuse, when he stuck Larry Csonka at the goalline.

When the D-line knocked Arkansas' O-line off the line causing the "fumble" that got us back in the hunt for the NC.

I saw a comment by Clint Stoerner ( the Ark QB) a few years later, he said he's never seen a defensive lineman move so fast in his life!

Darin Miller intercepting a pitchout and going 96 yards for a TD in the '87 Kickoff Classic.

I didn't see it obviously, but stuffing Billy Cannon at the goal line against LSU in the Sugar Bowl.

The Dale Jones interception.

The Dwayne Goodrich pick 6 in the Fiesta Bowl.

I can't remember who it was against, but Rashaad Baker intercepted a pass falling down one handed that was about as good as it ges.

He now plays for the Nashville Cats in the Arena League. He's doing pretty good too

All great plays. The Darren Miller play is one of the craziest plays I've ever seen.

Deon Grant's interception against Florida in '98.
Bill Duff's goal line stop of Eddie George in the Citrus Bowl.

Leonard Little made some good defensive plays in his time here.

His detonation job on, I believe it was, Brian Burgdorf in the '95 Alabama game was a classic.

In 1982, Mike Terry intercepted a pass in the endzone to preserve a victory against Alabama and stop a 11 game Bama win streak over the Vols!

Bill Duff stuffing EG was HUGE.

Deon was amazing. He had alot of big plays, but that int probably saved the game. Didn't he also have like three ints in the first half against Auburn in 99?

Was it Kevin Burnett against a Florida WR at the pond in 01?

No, it was the kid who came with John Henderson, his dad was a coach at the same HS......can't remember his name....

One of you is talking about Maurice Fitzgerald and one of you is talking about the lick Eddie Moore put on that kid.

I was at a game UT vs. Alabama in B'ham (either 89 or 91). Bama handed the ball to their tailback(Murray Hill) on a sprint draw up the middle. It so happened that their blockers had locked onto our defense tackles and middle linebackers so that it formed almost a hallway that their little tailback roared up through at full speed. Well, Daryl Hardy (a much underrated LB) saw what was happening. He must have been out in pass coverage and he comes charging down that alleyway from the defensive side at full speed and he and Hill colide. I was 30 rows up in the stands and I heard the pop when he leveled the Bama back who was carried off the field with multiple broken ribs.

I never like to see a player even on the opposition get hurt. (Murray Hill never played again for Bama).

Does anyone else remember that tackle?

Let's be honest though. The d-line's push caused Stoerner to stumble, but Clint Stoerner is the one who caused Clint Stoerner to fumble.
