Delta Variant

I'm no expert but I believe the virus is acting just like all viruses do, they mutate. I don't the the vaccine has anything to do with it.
And it will continue to do so until we reach Herd Immunity. And we only get there through natural infection, vaccines, or a combo. The variants will be a threat until we achieve HIT rate. The concern would be that a variant makes the vaccines obsolete prior to us achieving the HIT rate.

Any guesses on the next variant name? And when?

This thread is really taking off. I'm pretty sure there's more wrong information in the first 10 pages than the first 100 of the original.

I've gone looking for the information on long term usage of ivermectin and hcq and can't find any clinical data regarding Covid-19. I also have to dispute the concept of a media blackout on these treatments given the easily found releases on Britain's new PRINCIPLE testing that includes ivermectin as a tested treatment for COVID-19. When I do find sites toutingb the effectiveness of these two treatments, they are generally hyper-partisan and rely on anecdotal data rather than reproducible testing.

No data available to suggest a link between India’s reduction of COVID-19 cases and the use of ivermectin

"In summary, neither the epidemiological nor the clinical data support the claim that the reduction in COVID-19 cases in India is due to the use of ivermectin. Media outlets making that claim based this solely on temporal correlation without providing evidence of a causal relationship. Contradicting this claim, epidemiological data show that contagiousness began to decrease in India before the release of new official guidelines recommending the use of ivermectin."

You also have to take into account the need for ivermectin to be dosage-tuned to each patient based on weight, and that serious contraindications exist for patients with any type of liver issues or on anticoagulants.

A large body of research exists demonstrating hydroxy chloroquine's lack of efficacy as a prophylaxis for COVID-19.

The efficacy and safety of hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19 prophylaxis: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized trials - PubMed

"Background: Populations such as healthcare workers (HCW) that are unable to practice physical distancing are at high risk of acquiring Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19). In these cases pharmacological prophylaxis would be a solution to reduce severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS CoV-2) transmission. Hydroxychloroquine has in vitro antiviral properties against SARS CoV-2. We therefore sought to determine the efficacy and safety of hydroxychloroquine as prophylaxis for COVID-19.

Methods and findings: We electronically searched EMBASE, MEDLINE, the Cochrane COVID-19 Register of Controlled Trials, Epistemonikos COVID-19, clinicaltrials.gov, and the World Health Organization International Clinical Trials Registry Platform up to September 28th, 2020 for randomized controlled trials (RCTs). We calculated pooled relative risks (RRs) for dichotomous outcomes with the corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) using a random-effect model. We identified four RCTs (n = 4921) that met our eligibility criteria. The use of hydroxychloroquine, compared to placebo, did not reduce the risks of developing COVID-19 (RR 0.82, 95% CI 0.65 to 1.04, moderate certainty), hospitalization (RR 0.72, 95% CI 0.34 to 1.50, moderate certainty), or mortality (RR 3.26, 95% CI 0.13 to 79.74, low certainty), however, hydroxychloroquine use increased the risk of adverse events (RR 2.76, 95% CI 1.38 to 5.55, moderate certainty).

Conclusion: Although pharmacologic prophylaxis is an attractive preventive strategy against COVID-19, the current body of evidence failed to show clinical benefit for prophylactic hydroxychloroquine and showed a higher risk of adverse events when compared to placebo or no prophylaxis.

I'm not saying these treatments are or are not effective. I simply do not know, but would point out that I could not imagine any scenario where these companies who spend millions lobbying our government would admit efficacy of a simple treatment readily available and extremely inexpensive.

I'm not even saying there is a conspiracy, but I would not dismiss it as possibility.

I don’t believe I said the two were alike . I also am starting to think you may have skipped history classes taught in public schools . Society loses more of its rights to choose anytime there’s a crisis , the larger the crisis the more chances of you losing your right to say “ I don’t believe I’ll do that .” If you don’t believe our government or any government will take the opportunity to take the choice ( regardless of what that choice is ) out of your hands and force a decision on you , with or without your consent, under the guise of public safety , you can’t be helped and you are probably better off just following SOP and staying in line .

Blah, blah, blah. I took a B.A. Degree in U.S. History from the University of Tennessee. Can you post anything that is not pathetically stupid?

Missouri mother-of-two, 45, who didn't want to get vaccinated against COVID-19 over fears of side effects dies after contracting Indian 'Delta' variant

A Missouri mother-of-two who didn't get vaccinated against COVID-19 because she feared side effects has died after contracting the Indian 'Delta' variant.

Tricia Jones, 45, from Grain Valley, was hesitant about getting the shot after hearing news reports about people suffering rare side effects such as blood clots or heart inflammation and decided to wait.

However, in the spring, she contracted the Delta variant and never recovered, reported FOX 4.

Within a month, Jones was hospitalized, placed on a mechanical ventilator and, soon after, passed away.

It comes the Delta variant has been declared the dominant strain of the virus in the U.S., making up 51.7 percent of all new infections, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Jones's mother, Deborah Carmichael, told FOX 4 that she got her COVID-19 vaccine when it became available to her in the spring.

However, her daughter was undecided and wanted to wait.

'She was afraid of the side effects, I think,' Carmichael told FOX 4.

'You hear a lot of horror stories. I, myself, when I had the shot, it was rough, so it scared her and freaked her out. So she didn't want to do it. I couldn't convince her.'

In April, Jones's son contracted the virus at his middle school, and it was later learned that his infection was linked to the Delta variant.

It wasn't long before Jones and her husband, Keith, both fell ill too.

What are you doing with that degree. Not being condescending... just wondering. I honestly believe that aside from a very few technical degrees that a college degree in general doesn't mean **** anymore. I know hundreds of pilots, and the vast majority have a degree in something non aviation related. (The smart ones do anyway)

Will anyone now contract and possibly die from any variant of 19 but the Delta Variant?

I'm beginning to see this narrative being advanced more over the past few days that there will be lockdowns this fall. They are trying to get us mentally prepared for this. I don't see how we can survive another series of lockdowns.

Was just watching Cavuto on Fox. He and Charles Payne were discussing the market today and how Australia, Asia, and Europe are being ravaged right now with the Delta variant. Cavuto mentioned the markets are wondering if it’ll be here.

Sounds like it's a racist virus and only attacking white/near white people. Sounds like we should let it rage on.

Just praying for no lockdowns here. I do think Red states would fight back against Biden. I also think lockdowns would backfire on Biden and Harris for 2024. Lockdowns would mean economic suicide.
