Attn Mods: Can we put my thread on this back on its own? There was a reason for it. Though it alludes to the same article, it should not be merged because my thread pointed out what the REAL story was, as opposed to the manufactured one.

Thanks in advance.

Overruled, it's the exact same story.

I officially protest that the mod allowed his own political views to affect his judgment on the issue of merging my thread on the subject.

It should not be so.

Thankfully, the Democrats got wind of it and changed the locks to prevent future abuses of the public trust.

Did you read the part about Dems canceling meetings to avoid an investigation that will expose some of their buddies?

Isn't in the public trust to find out if Countrywide gave sweetheart deals to Congressional members that in turn voted favorably on bills impacting Countrywide? Nah. The bad old R's made a video.

That's a different question. If any member of Congress is corrupt and took money from Countrywide, or it protecting those that did, they should be exposed, be they Democrat or Republican (my unofficial guess is that its a fairly even split).

The issues here are:

1) Whether the article's title is intentionally misleading, making it appear at first glance that Democrats are preventing Republicans from attending actual committee meetings. I take the position that the aritcle's title is intentionally desgiend to trick people into thinking that, when a thorough read of the article demonstrates that not to be the case. Given the initial reaction of the usual VN dumkaufs to post in response, unfortunately the deceit of the far right is, as usual, working.

2) Whether it is wrong to change the locks to prevent the Republicans from wasting taxpayer dollars on staged meetings designed to create the fiction of Democrats failing to deal with the issue at that moment. Note: I am NOT saying that the Dems are not failing in their responsiiblity to investigate this. That would be a valid criticism, I think. But THAT is not the issue in the article -- the issue in the article is preventing them from having pretend meetings and then feigning outrage at the Democrats not being there.

I resent both the gimmickry of the Republicans in shrieking about the wrong issue, and the intentionally misleading nature of the article.

Your thorough approach to article reading exposes the abortion you are in quoting your media matters drivel on a daily basis.

Get over it. The dems are every bit as culpable here as you do not want them to be, regardless of your stupid argument about fiscal responsibility.

Oh, my argument in that vein is largely tongue in cheek. In fact, my guess is that the Dems are worse on that point in this case, somehow, than the Republicans.

My real point is that the article is intentionally misleading. I don't really see anyone taking issue with my point on that.
