Seems like this gives the GOP quite a bit. And no tax increase.

But they oppose it? Huh? That makes no sense.....

Oh, I see. They want less cuts now, in hopes that they can propose more cuts next year that can't pass muster, so that then they can blame that on Obama for the POTUS election.

So instead of blowing a nice hole in the deficit, they'd rather play politics. Those of you complaining that every step by Obama in this process has been about securing votes might want to take a look in the mirror.

the also included the iraq war ending as a budget cut.

that was the danger of allowing war spending to be placed "on budget". Not only does ending a war constitute a "budget cut", but it can also mean that there's money being appropriated and not being used, therefore it can be spent on "it's for the children" type garbage.

The Dems might as well cut spending on the Future USS Enterprise which is set to be completed in Stardate 2258.42

From what I'm reading there are plenty of specifics in the Reid plan. It doesn't cut entitlements, however, and Boehner said today that's a deal breaker for the GOP.

i'd lvoe to see how you can cut $2.7 trillion without cutting entitlements. does not compute.

I wonder if Reid supports Boehner's plan? How about Obama?

I'm sure your put out that Boehner's plan isn't getting Dem support.

If Gerald Williams can count on Fulmer's recruiting ranking for 4 years, then surely then dems can count the same war spending cuts for 2 years. :)

Hilarious move by Obama and Geithner this weekend running around and telling everyone. "If we don't pass a deal this weekend, the markets will crash". Like all of a sudden they give a rats ass about the Stock Market.

Specifically, Reid's plan includes $1.2 trillion in savings from various domestic and defense programs, along with $1 trillion in savings from winding down the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. It also generates $400 billion in interest savings on the debt, and another $40 billion by rooting out waste, fraud and abuse.
Im glad this groundbreaker is rooting out that 40 bil. May save us just yet.

"I hope my colleagues on the other side will still know a good deal when they see it. I hope they'll remember how to say yes," Reid said. "Democrats have done more than just meet Republicans in the middle. We've met them all the way."
Wouldn't "meeting them all the way" mean going with any of the bills put forth by the Repubs. so far?

Harry, Harry, Harry.

No one thinks there is a prayer they default. Treasury yields still near all time lows.

This was my favorite part: "Specifically, Reid's plan includes $1.2 trillion in savings from various domestic and defense programs..."

I love it when they get specific! :eek:lol:
