that's fine, but why does it take 10 games in to communicate that with a player that can obviously help the team? Why wait for Reese to come to you?

Sometimes that's what it takes. I'm sure Reese was upset with his lack of playing time, and that anger and disappointment sometimes clouds good judgement. Sometimes you have to first admit to yourself that you aren't doing everything you can to be better, then humble yourself before the coach, admit that, and ask what it will take.

Reese admitted he was angry, ready to quit the team and walk away, but stuck around, put in the effort, and has been rewarded for it. CCM shouldn't have to beg his guys for their best effort, and if someone isn't willing to give it, he'll move on to the next guy that is willing.

Definitely helps with rebounding when Maymon is out but, damn that's an ugly 3 point shot.
I'd red flag until he adjusts to the speed of the college game. He does however make his lay ups.

Yea I said after last game he has earned more minutes, I think Martin will bring Reese off the bench sooner tonight, possibly ahead of Moore and Davis.

I still wish CCM would have considered red shirting Davis. I think he would make a great 4 wouth aobut 20-30 more pounds on him.

He needed Davis at the time, because Moore, Edwards, Q and Reese weren't proving to be better options.

My impression is he's missed several layups this year. Specifically remember in the VA game Maymon's was out ahead with the ball and couldn't convert.

Can he dunk at all since his knee problems?

Reese? Don't think so.
Offensive rebound under the glass. He puts it in.
Rushes his 3 point shot even when not contested.
Game will slow down for him with more playing time though.

It's pretty obvious that Edwards is getting an opportunity to play a bit due to Hubbs' injury, but should we infer that Reese is seeing minutes because he's putting in the effort and Armani is not?

JMO, but Reese is seeing minutes because he's our third leading rebounder with only 14 minutes a game.

I hear you. Imo though, communication is a 2 way street. If CM needs to communicate something with a player, he need not wait until the player comes to him, especially if it's beneficial to the team, player and coach.
And all coaches are always begging for effort. All day in practice and in games.

I'm sure it was addressed by CCM at some point in time, but perhaps met with contention by Reese until he finally admitted to himself that he wasn't fully committed to getting better and giving 100% in practice, the weight room, the classroom, etc.

As for effort, I know coaches "beg" for effort in a team environment like practice and games, but he shouldn't have to repeatedly beg the 5th or 6th player down the bench for continual effort on a one-on-one basis outside of practice. You'd like to think the fact that they are the 5th or 6th player off the bench is motivation enough.

Bottom line, we don't know how many private meetings took place before Reese's "ah-ha" moment where he decided to work harder. Not really fair to hold Martin accountable for not approaching Reese earlier when we don't really know whether he did or not.

Do you guys think his sudden playing time started because the effort in practice got that much better, or CCM wasn't happy with what he was getting from the other guys?

Just seems strange that their wasn't at least glimpses of this production in practice.

I've only played high school ball but was fortunate enough to play around a lot of talented D-1 guys and I've seen plenty that do not look the part in practice but when you put them on the court it's like they flip a switch and it all comes together.

problem is there are more guys that happen to perform well in practice but get into a game with the crowd and lights and can't translate it over

16.3 MPG
7.0 PPG
8.7 RPG
4-11 from 3 (36.4%)
2.0 BPG
1.3 FPG

I don't know if he's the solution for the third forward spot, but his last three games are an indicator he definitely should be at least getting a few minutes. Even though he didn't shoot well against Virginia, he still had nine rebounds and three assists in 10 minutes.

He seems to be developing nicely. Kid can get some rebounds. The FR obviously need some development but should be fine.

Yeah I just listened to what coach said, just told me to put up lots of shots and work hard and I could get in. Tougher breed
