Derrick Henry, Bama's next RB bust?

LenDale White 2.0 but with worse hands (yes that's possible)

He's a good downhill runner and thats it. He's going to be humbled real quick in the NFL.

Derrick Henry is an enormous powerful downhill bruiser who imposes himself. That's the MO. Derrick's awkwardness dancing around in tight spaces seems kinda meaningless IMO.

Looks like the Titans had better take the "Run Backwards Without Looking Where You're Going" play out of the gameplan.

Just shows that his footwork is bad and that he has stiff hips.

How many successful NFL running backs are downhill only runners?

It is. No one is worried about Marshawn Lynch's lateral agility.

"Jerome Bettis and Brandon Jacobs and Eddie George and Lynch were all good, but could they juke people side-to-side?"

There's more than one way to make people miss. Richardson failed because he had godawful vision, which Henry doesn't have. He'll be fine. If he went anywhere other than Bama, most on here would probably agree

He is nothing like Eddie George, Hurd is a lot like George.

Hurd is comparable in size to Henry and there is a big difference between the two.

Henry is a downhill runner and he needs time to get going (slow acceleration) plus he has zero lateral quickness. That doesn't translate well into the NFL.

Sure he may be able to punch one in from time to time but he won't be an every down back. Especially not with the Titans because he is going to need a great O-line who created huge gaps in order for him to be successful. He isn't getting that there.

Say what you want about his agility but this dude is going to be a hammer at the goal line.

Derrick Henry compared to wrecking ball by ESPN's Sports Science, called a 'hybrid Eddie George' | AL.com

According to "Sports Science," Henry's acceleration in the first 5 yards was the fastest time of any player analyzed at any position in the last three drafts.

“He got through one hole that I swear it couldn’t have been eight inches wide,” Robinson said. “And he picked his feet up and got through it and lowered his shoulder like he was going to run through a tackler. There was one, it was a zone play, he saw a cutback lane, stuck his foot and cut back across the grain and outran the pursuit of the defense.

“For a guy that big and that strong to come in and show in the team portions what he was capable of doing, those were two impressive runs by him.”

"With almost 400 touches this year, scouts are concerned about his workload. Averaged almost 32 carries against SEC competition including 90 carries over his final two regular season games. Tall, long-strider who takes time to build up his speed. Average foot quickness can lead to tackles for losses if he gets too cute in the backfield. Needs to improve his second read as a zone runner. Ineffective in passing game with below average hands. Narrow based running style allows defenders to trip him up. More run*-finisher than tackle breaker with just seven broken tackles to Leonard Fournette's 22. Sluggish cut*back ability once he's outside the tackle box."

-from his draft profile. The experts share my way of thinking.
