Lap and Library were where Buffalo Wild Wings is/was. They were separate, and then they operated more or less as a single bar sometime in the early 90's. The Lap was a beer joint and the Library had music acts most nights of the week. Friday nights before football games were crazy. They usually had a big band play - Sage, Mel and the Party hats, Jason and the Scorchers, Unitz, Velcro Pygmies, White Animals (?).

Ivy's was a pickup joint where Rumorz is now. Before that, it was on Lake Ave. roughly where Cool Beans is. I think it was one spot east of Cool Beans' location.

The Longbranch Saloon used to be where Regions bank (whatever's next to Hannah's - same side of street) is. It was a complete dump and therefore awesome.

There used to be a lot more activity back on Lake Ave. There were three frat houses in that corner of Lake/18th that is now a "park" and a parking garage. There were several versions of a bar that sat where the Renaissance condos (the smaller ones) now sit. The huge condo building at Lake/18th was a bunch of apartments.

Ruby Tuesday was where the Gnome is now.

Hawkeye's was at the corner of White/17th. There is still some sort of bar/restaurant there. They had bands several nights a week in the upstairs.

Quarters was where the Goodwill store is now - couple spaces away from the Yacht Club bar now. Another beer bar.

Roman room was where McAlister's is now. Great subs/etc. and beer.

Great run down. I spent a lot of time (probably too much time) in Ivy's when it was on Lake Ave as I was in DU just up the block on Terrace. Between the frat and ROTC we were there almost every night it seems.

We also spent many lunches at the place on the strip that Ivy's moved to, but I can't remember the name of that place.

also add in Arnold's/Flamingos for good live music. Saw some great shows there (if you were a Drivin n Cryin fan it was a must)

That place was great. Widespread Panic, Beanland played there. I we went backstage with the The Grapes and thought we were the ****. Do you remember Chicago Pizza across the street? Longbranch was cool then too.

saw WSP and DMB there in the very early 90's. You talking about Stefano's for pizza? The owner was an advisor of ours so we ate there quite often.

Yea maybe I am getting it confused with the Memphis place. I watched the 92 LSU game there. It was on the same side as O'Charleys.

Anybody remember the Cumberland Tap Room? Pinball macines and PONG!!!

Yosemite Sam's was a pool hall that was great for Friday apres class. Get half snookered, go back up the hill, lay a good base at the Presidential diner and head for Uncle Sam's on the Alcoa highway. I knew some of the bartenders and I don't think I ever bought a pitcher.

The original Ruby Tuesday's was the late Saturday Night spot...twofers after midnight. Play much backgammon in the greenhouse like area. Ruby's was great.

Breakfast at the Varsity was always great

Knoxville was a great town for a college student.

Library and Darryl's back in the 90's. I think he still plays around town.

Does Cumberland Tap Room = The Tap Room next to OCI?

I'm sure I've said "excuse me" to you while moving around one of those joints. Named my hound Mel after Mel & the Party Hats.

if you did Monday nite Ivys between 83-86, you probably saw me. Usually sat with a big group right next to the juke box on the left side. Still cant find a bargin like $3 all you can drink. Buy a $.90 pack of smokes and your nite was set.

I got to UT on the tail end of Ivy's on Lake ave, but iirc they had a Monday(?) beer bust. Something insane like $3 or $4. I think you had to bring your own cup. lol

Last time I remember going to The Library was in '95 before the MSU game. Velcro Pygmies were there. I remember them being there because they had just performed at my fraternity's party at UT-Martin about a week before. Really good band.

I was just thinking of partying in college at The Lap and The Library when they were combined. I googled it and found this thread. Man I miss those good old college days on The Strip.
