Should not be playing ahead of Marlin Lane. Neal is clearly the top back, but Lane has looked significantly better than Young through 2 games.

Young is good in the return game, but he is simply too small to play RB in this offense. He would probably be more useful in a spread type offense. But, he is too small to run between the tackles, and his speed getting laterally has not been overly impressive. I think he will get eaten alive by an SEC defense trying to run laterally. If he had not broken that one long run he would have averaged about 2 yards/carry tonight.

Lane, on the other hand, does a good job of running north/south, and is averaging over 5 yards per carry through the first 2 games.

I'd actually make a Case for Lane being the Starter, way better instinctive back then Raijon, who seems like he just wants to go to the outside all the time...

I wouldnt be totally opposed to that, although I do think Neal has looked solid. Young should definitely be the 3rd string (or maybe 4th behind that Watson kid) running back.

Young was averaged 5.8 yards a carry? Did we watch the same game?

I'm mainly going off of the NC State game because it was against a decent defense unlike the game today, and Lane looked 100x's better then Neal..

I thought Neal did a much better job of hitting the hole today except for the couple that were designed to go outside. And he averaged 5 ypc. Young averaged 5.8.

So instead of 5.8 yards per carry he will average 4?

What is 4 x 3? O yeah, A FIRST DOWN!

Again, take away the 30 yard run he had late in the game during garbage time, and he had 16 yards on 7 carries. Thats 2.3 yards per carry. 4 of those is a turnover on downs. Thanks for playing.

Did you get the memo? We are a big play offense.

Right and if you take away 39 points the Vols lose today 13-12.

Seems like deja vu?

 Wow. Yes, Devrin's 30 yard run in garbage time when the game was clearly over is exactly the same as the Vols 39 points. Any other outstanding analysis?

I agree, he did do better today, but I think Lane is the better back at doing that, although I think the carries should go like this:
Lane: 45%
Neal: 35%
Young: 15%
Watson: 5%

Fine. If Devrin breaks one of those against Florida, Bama, or Georgia, I'll happily come back here and eat crow. Just dont see it happening after watching him the first two games.

Curry was still coaching. G St. was still playing. They gave their all. Did you see those last two TOs. G St. would not quit.

Edit: You know one can prove just about anything as long as you pick and choose the stats you want to use. (Pls note the rhyme.)
