Dick Cheney just doesn't get it

Palin was still a mistake regardless of McCain's inadequacies. Truth be told, few would beat Obama then given the Bush hangover and all the reasons people through their vote towards Obama.

Neither of them should have been running. McCain was a RHINO but Palin is an idiot. I'm amazed at those that continue to defend her. Yes, the loony tunes on the left made it seem like she was dumber than she really was but she really had no clue what she was doing.

Cheney apparently "gets it" better than you imo. Further, I didn't see where he through Palin "under the bus" or blamed her for McCain losing the election. What he did say, however, is 100% accurate. They did not properly vet Palin in making the decision, she was not prepared to be POTUS (or even prepared to handle interviews at that point), and it was without question a bad decision.

Yes on everything except last sentence. Military Canidates will not do well when the economy is in the dumps

Obi-Wan Kenobi: Who's more foolish, the fool or the fool who follows him?

If we look at this particular case and we assume that Palin is actually as bad as people describe her, then who is more foolish? The fool or the fool that selected her?

He didn't say it, but it is implied. I mean really, if McCain would have won, it would have been called a bold move. But since McCain lost, it is called a mistake, as though that was a critical reason why McCain lost. Again, the VP selection wouldn't have saved McCain, nor did it sabotage him.

And Cheney's point was that it was a bad decision in picking her... so are you now agreeing with him?

I'm actually going a step further... I'm saying that McCain was the problem. If we are to believe that Palin was such a monumental bust, then that is an indictment on McCain and the people he had surrounding him making critical decisions.

VP selections are based more on how close the race is than anything else. McCain was lagging behind so much that a bold high risk/high reward move had to be made. I suspect with this election as close at is, Romney's choice will be on the safe side.

I disagree.
When the banking crisis hit, I believe a Romney VP pick would have helped McCain.
Palin fired up the base, however, with her many blunders and the fundamentals the economy being sound comment doomed McCain.

We'll probably just have to agree to disagree. I just can't see a McCain/Romney ticket 4 years ago firing up anybody. Like was mentioned earlier, it was a bold move... an act of desperation at the time because he needed a boost in the campaign. McCain was the problem. Had he been a candidate that was in a commanding position, he could have made a more traditional/vanilla pick for VP.
