i agree...they were really playing well toward the end of the regular season last year....and Steele is very good.

I don't know how good we'll be next year, we won't suck, and i can't see us finishing lower than 2nd in the East, assuming UF will pick up where they left off. the rest of the division i don't see being all that great....

for us, i think 07/08 has the makings to be a very good season....get those recruits in there, get them some experience and some time in BP's system, and the next season could be awesome.

so for now, i think he has us about right....i mean, i don't think anyone thought we were as good as we got (as far as seeding went anyway) last season....we all knew what our flaws were and they got exposed in the end. Truth be known, by year's end we probably were a 15-20 type team...not top 8.

And given the duldrums of TN bball the past decade or so, any pre season nods are a good thing. Just more to build on.

I will defer to you on this one then. However, 'Final Four caliber' rarely leads to Final Four participant (another reason I enjoy the bowl system in college football.)

on other side of the coin, rarely do non final four caliber teams make it either....last year not withstanding....

but that's why it's a tournament....you win, you play. being considered a final four caliber team guarantees nothing. a reason i don't always enjoy the current bowl system.

We need to make out of hte 2nd round before we start getting the mentality of "elite 8/final four or bust".

i think we should be capable of making it to the sweet 16....anything after that is gravy.

I think our expectations should be a 5 seed and a win in the tourney. We lost a lot of leadership off last year's team, and this year we are going to have a lot of young (yes, talented) guys. In two years we should be looking at 16, 8, and 4.

I couldn't agree more. There is a chance that this team may not even make the NCAA. We don't know what to expect out of these guys and we are no longer a sleeper. I can't imagine what this board will do if CBP fails to make it past the 1st round of the NCAA. He should probably start looking for jobs now just to be safe (joke).

That's what makes the basketball system vastly superior. You determine a team's status on the court, not in computer labs and press boxes.

If Ramar Smith doesn't qualify, I wouldn't be at all surprised if UT misses the NCAA Tournament.

I would at least like to see best of 3 series starting in the round of 8. If you can't get that far, then you don't deserve to win the championship.

I don't believe the NCAA does anything right. I like March Madness for entertainment purposes, however, I believe it is just as much a crock, if not more, than all the other ways the NCAA decides champions (except in track and swimming.)

Yeah, I can't imagine how having the winner determined by who actually wins the games could be a good system.

i may be wrong, but i think he may have more of an issue with how the seedings are decided....a comittee. that's the only thing about the NCAA tourney i don't like is the way the seeds are determined. other than that, it's a great thing.....

It is still not even close to objective. There is not only subjectivity in the selection process, but subjectivity in regular season scheduling, conference affiliations, conference membership, etc. It boils down to ratings. On top of that, it is all based on a team's performance in 1 game. 1 off night, and they are gone, whether or not they are the best team. The NCAA Tournament Awards the hottest teams in March.

Look at the last 10 champions. Tell me which of those teams weren't one of the 10 best teams in the country. In fact, 5 of those 10 years the team that won was clearly the best team in the country. If you can't perform when the spotlight is on you, you don't deserve to win anything.

but that's the beauty of it too...the NFL playoffs reward the hottest team in January....take my Steelers. No one thought they were the best team. it was the Colts or the Pats, or the Broncos or the Seahawks or the Panthers....

if you're that good, win. at that point in the season, with all you've done thus far, 1 game should be all you need.

In that case, are all NBA Champs and MLB Champs not deserving, save for those that went undefeated throughout their playoffs?

No, the goal there is to win 4 games before your opponent does. Also, they don't play the NBA playoffs or the World Series at neutral sites.

personally i love March Madness their isnt a more exciting few weeks in sports all year. You have teams like James Madison showing up in the final for, #2 and 3 seeds going out in the 1st round. It may not get the best team every year but its great fun.
