Did anyone ever think it could get this bad?

If you turned on Fulmer you deserve ever bit of this. I knew it would be every bit as bad as what Bama went through when they fired Stallings. We still have 3-4 horrible coaches to get through before we get back to being an elite program. See ya in 10 years.

I turned on Fulmer because we were getting left behind in the SEC with a coach that was becoming mediocre without David Cutcliffe on his staff.

In the mean time UF hired a winner in Meyer and Bama hired a winner in Saban. Fulmer would have NEVER beat either one of these and had a losing record against Richt.

People who were still supporting Fulmer were then and now supporting mediocrity. The problem is that he had never proven that HE could bring the program back once it was down. Especially without Cut. Majors handed him a gift in 1992 and he was able to take advantage of it about 5 years later. Fulmer also had problems with assistant coaches that were very competent. Mike Berry and Mark Bradley were excellent coaches and recruiters but had run ins with a stubborn head coach. He hired the only coach that Spurrier decided not to take with him to the NFL, Stephens. There was a reason that Spurrier left him behind. Pat Washington was another ineffective coach that Fulmer would not fire. Also, you might want to remember that we had an opportunity to hire the OC coming off the Michigan staff in 2007, but we chose a disaster named Dave Clawson and his famed Clawfense.

But I could see some non-analytical administrator at UT making this move to bring back "the good ole days." History always has a way of repeating itself for those who do not get it. Just remember that there were two sets of "good ole days" with Fulmer and the trend was all down hill in the new century.

I know there is really nothing more to say about Dooley at this point but I never thought it could get this ugly.

My god, what I wouldn't give for 4 or 5 conference wins these days. No one can say we are "spoiled" anymore. This is the football equal of living through the great depression.

I just hope there is someone out there that can turn this thing around in a few years ala Saban. This is very, very bad. I honestly don't know if we ever fully rocover from this, at least not for another 10-12 years.

Hell, is Bill Battle still around?

Yes, I fully expected it. Had a glimmer of hope after the NC State game, but that diminished quickly

After UK last year, anything was possible.

If Hart continues to do nothing, this team can pack it in and go 4-8-- another record to the downside.

We fired Fulmer midway thru a season right after we made it to the SEC championship game. We were spoiled and thought we should be in the national championship game every year even though we were in the running to be SEC champs every year and that wasn't good enough. So, we fire a HOF coach for Kiffin!?!?! This is honestly what we deserve, that's the way I see it. We dug our own graves on this one.

Go Vols though!

Coaching is a huge part of winning. Kansas State not exactly a five star recruiting school but they have a great coach and good talent and they win. The only way were coming back is get some coaches in here. It is gonna take more money than we have been willing to spend up to this point.

When UT lost to LSU and UNC in Dooley's first year in bizarre fashion, I had my doubts about Dooley. Those two games showed how inept Dooley was at in-game decisions.

Now fast forward two years later and this team has a better roster than 2 years ago, but similar to worse results.

That coaching staff had to really try to lose that game yesterday and they did. The team dominated the first half, yet were only up 21-7 because of allowing a special teams TD and a fumble in the red zone. Any other coaching staff with half a brain would've had that game over at the half, but this one finds ways to lose games.

These players deserve better. There is no way in hell that this team should be 4-6 with the talent that is on this team. It reminds me of 2005 when UT had a great defense and they had Meachem, Swain and Foster on offense but couldn't do anything. It was coaching then and it's coaching now. Hunter, Patterson and maybe Bray will all be better pros than they were in college because of coaching. They'll get actual coaching in the NFL where they haven't had much in college. The defense with more depth and better personnel than last year has gone from a mid 20's statistically defense to a 112 rating in just a year. That's coaching. Complete inept coaching.

I thought the hire could set us back a decade..
Now I just hope Hart hires someone that can turn it around quick

To answer OP: No, I never thought it would be this bad. I never thought we would realistically be looking at zero SEC wins for the season. I couldn't have conceptualized this before the season started or at any time before.

There are two contributing factors here which I think are important: One, we are in our worst multi-year stretch in over a century. Two, the SEC is not only the best it's ever been but is also on a streak the likes of which have been rarely exceeded in modern day, competitive sports. This is what's making this so hard.

I did...sorry to say. But after we lost to UK last year, and folks were saying we are at the bottom and it can only get better...I said "oh, this could get way worse."

And I still believe it could get worse if the issues aren't resolved with a "Rock Star" hire.

Well, on a tiny, tiny humorous side, Vol Calls should be one heck of a source of entertainment. Since they obviously screen for pro-Dooley callers, there's gonna be a whole new breed of moron calling in this week. 'Cause even I--former adamant Dooley supporter--can't defend the man anymore.

I do not agree with the sentiment that not supporting Fulmer implies some sort of bad karma. Coach Fulmer is a great man who served his state and alma mater and deserves to be a hall-of-fame coach. His time, however, had come.
