Did CBJ make a case?

Sounds like Fergie's grandpa is gonna grab him by the ear and take him back.....just like a scene out of Hoosiers.

I hope not. We should have and play NO players who don't want to be at the UT. If he really wants to leave, buy him a bus ticket, a boxed meal, and a farewell card. Have the KPD escort him to the station make sure he gets on the bus and stays there when it leaves. Maybe even have a salsa band during the send off, singing something soulful about the best of luck and hope for his success. That way he knows he left and we didn't resent him for doing so but by all means good-bye.

There's never a right time to say goodbye
But I gotta make the this move
'Cause if I don't you gonna start hating me
Cause I really don't feel the way I once felt about you
Hey now, it's not you, it's me
I kinda gotta figure out what I need (oh)
There's never a right time to say goodbye
But we know that we gotta go
Our separate ways
And I know it's hard but I gotta do it,
And it's killing me
Cause there's never a right time
Right time to say goodbye

Maybe Dobbs has turned the corner and Ferguson could see the writing on the wall and didn't want to be a backup while here at UT.

Honestly, if Torrance Gibson commits to TN, I'll be shocked. Saw highlights on him. He's a QB that runs first and passes second. I think he would fit in Auburns offensive philosophy better than ours just because they run more.

Of course we would take him, but I would think with our WR's we are depending on a QB with an accurate arm that releases the ball early and when we need him to scramble he's able to break out.

Ferguson was actually summoned the CIA for a secret QB mission in the mountains Northwest of Kandahar.... There's your answer.

In all seriousness, we'll never know the full story. Let's just wish him well, let it go, and take solace that the QB race can be narrowed down some and it's probably attractive to recruits knowing they have less young competition.

I have only seen one player who wanted to leave the program but was convinced to NOT leave and actually ended up staying.

That was Travis Henry. Remember, Jamaal was the starter and Travis wasn't getting much playing time ,so in an effort to not quit the team and be labeled as a quitter, he stole someones stereo and it was caught on video.

Fulmer punished him and convinced him to stay on the team. Boy, that was huge! Had he left, things would have been much different.....

Given The Vols new found depth at WR recruiting a QB should be easier going forward. Dobbs may still pan out too from the look of things too. Best of luck to Ferg but we will be fine without him.

Sorry if this has already been discussed but I'm just wondering if CBJ tried to convince Fergy to stay?

If all of this was true about how he wanted things "handed to him" I would assume that CBJ could have figured it out quicker than just now.

Also, if he did have a poor attitude, why did TN not recruit a QB for the 2014 class?

Maybe there is really something more to this story than we think.

Not really. Ferg was too scared to compete against the Dobb Goblin.

I refuse to wring my hands about why a Freshman that's never taken a snap transferred.

BINGO!!!! I never really had a good feeling about this kid playing much of a role for the Vols...not saying he's trouble or anything like that....I JUST DONT LIKE DRAMA...and usually where there's DRAMA there's issues....Certainly wish him well and what seems to be an illogical decision on his part, I'm sure we dont know all the in's and out's....my way of thinking...NEXT!!!

The coaches, including CBJ, made their bed. Now they have to lie in it. It is the coaches responsibility to produce a winning team with whatever players they have or do not have. I think it is time to stop blaming Ferguson and start taking a close look at the coaches. The coaches need to be held accountable, not Riley Ferguson. They apparently did not see Riley as a contender for the starting job and it appears he made a decision to go where he can play. Good for him. Now BUTCH JONES needs to show a lot of improvement this year over last year!! I keep hearing excuses such as "We loss our offensive line". Geez....do we ever hear Alabama, Florida State, Ohio State, or Auburn crying about players who left????? Wake up Vols...the coaches need to earn their money!!

I told my 8-year old daughter about Fergy and she sang me the following advice:

"Let him go, let him go
Can't hold him back anymore
Let him go, Let him go
Turn my back and slam the door ..."

seems I cant escape "Frozen" anywhere these days...
even on VN... I feel your pain...oh well, time to grab the girls and watch it for the 367th time...

I know you are being lighthearted but as a veteran who works at Walter Reed seeing our kids RF's age come back from Afghanistan missing arms and legs, I can't get with a college athlete who (may be) spoiled being put into a joke like that. No offense meant to you.

Me either usually. But, since I've been reading on VN from a several folks claiming the second coming of Joe Montana, I decided to get to wringing. :cray:

Maybe there is really something more to this story than we think.

If CBJ has to convince ANY player to stay at UT, then it's not a player(Dooley commit) we need. There is always more to the story...but the title generally sums ups the story.

"I should be the starting QB....look what I did in HS" is the title of the story.

I feel there will be a marked improvement at QB this year. We have another year under the new offense. Hopefully, if Worley is playing, he has seen the importance of running a little more often. Dobbs had some success when he ran the ball last year. Maybe there WILL be a comfort zone for all the QBs. We will need someone to step it up. I just hope whoever is starting doesn't get hurt right off the bat and throw things in the crapper early. We have a tough row to hoe this year. I am looking forward to seeing all the new kids suiting up and knockin' some heads.

they spent significant time last weekend into the first part of the week talking. IMO, Jones was trying to understand why he wanted to leave and if he could stay. CBJ was well aware of all the issues with him but Jones and the staff also felt Ferguson easily had the best up side to any QBs on the roster. Now, it was made clear he had to work for the job all along. He just chose not to. If all parties could have agreed on the process going forward he likely would be hear and we never hear anything about it.

They tried to recruit QB in last class. They didn't need another QB like what they have but focused on high level. Just could not get one.
