Did Cincy hire Tuberville?

Tuberville hit his ceiling many years ago. Jones has a bright future ahead of him. There is no question that we made the better hire.

His wife's family lives in the area (Lawrenceburg, IN.)

This could be the reason for the jump to cincy...his wife was cited for vehicular homicide in a wreck that killed an elderly man...

most fans from TT are not sad to see him go..something about slapping a coach???

You think TT is a better coach than BJ? You are entitled to your opinion, but your POS edit is pure bunk.

Yes, I think TT is a better hire than BJ. Yes, cincy fans have been laughing at us...check twitter.

In any other profession a "senior" candidate will be more highly regarded than an entry level to <10 yrs kind of candidate. People work their entire lives to earn that "senior" title. They get paid more, are considered experts...they get the utmost respect from everyone below them. I'm job-searching myself right now, so I can't help but to notice similarities. Bottom line is that on paper TT is a better hire and a better coach with decades of experience in coaching and SEC football. Let's go BJ...make this happen!

They don't like him because his name is not Mike Leach.

This board would have been blowing up with negativity if we had hired tubs. Would have been no difference except people would have known who he was before they blew up.

If you are talking to me...

You are the reason that the Football Forum has the rep that it does. Folks in the FF are usually highly impressed with themselves, stuck up and FOS

Lol, I didn't see anything in that post to suggest he wasn't calm. Ironic that you would post that though.

Strange. To me the post had somewhat negative connotation which was being directed at my op, and an overall of vibe of frustrated condescension...aka the default mode of many of the folks in the FF. I could be completely wrong. Thanks for your input.

hmmmm. so they end up getting a better coach out of all this? Don't flame...I'm behind BJ, but if their ad can get TT in one day, why couldn't hart get gruden or something like that in a month?

Edit: Oh yeah...the cincy fans are making fun of us so hard right now. What else is new?

Jones cleaned house in Year 1, dealt with significant injuries and had some wondering about him after a three-win debut. Now look: 10 wins in 2011 from a team that probably shouldn’t have reached that high. Next problem for UC: keeping Jones. He won at CMU, he's winning at Cincy. Another big season should lead to a big BCS job (hello, Tennessee).

An NFL scout says: “If you’re just looking at the surface, you see him winning with what Brian Kelly built. Don’t believe that garbage. He can coach. He was one of those guys a few years ago where you just knew big things were coming his way. He’s not done, either. Not by a longshot.”

A few years ago, Tuberville was a top 5 coach in the big, bad SEC. Now he’s last in the Big 12—and treading water. It’s not like Tubs forgot how to coach; it’s a brutal job in Lubbock. Maybe now they can appreciate what Mike Leach accomplished.

Quality post. If you had to choose between BJ and TT, who would you have gone with? If I try to make an unbiased answer to that question, I think I'd probably go with TT. But, I believe BJ has more potential since he's young and possibly up-and-coming. But, that's what got us in trouble last time with dooley. I think TT would have been a safer hire, but BJ works for me...the more I see, the more I like.

Butch is the better coach right now. IMO. UC brought in Tubs for one reason, conference realignment. They needed to show a commitment to football and athletics, and have a big name to go with that. I think it'll work out well for both schools.

Why are you talking about other professions. And whether your premise is true or not depends on what the employer is looking for in total. There are plenty of examples of senior professionals being replaced by younger less experienced people. Sometimes senior can be a detriment, especially if you are looking for someone who is dynamic, can think out of the box, and especially TEACH young people. But, I like your last phrase.

I see what you're saying. When I used the word "senior" I didn't mean "old"...however in TT's case, he's gettin' on up there. A person with 25+ years experience could be as young as 50-ish. In terms of HC, that's fairly young (at least average)...same goes for other professions.

I was just going to say, before reading this, that I prefer Jones over Tuberville, Pellini, Sweeney and a number of others that have been mentioned. His team beat Charlie Strong's 2 out 3 seasons, and nearly swept him, this season, as their game went into overtime.

Sure, I'm still sore at Hart and Cheek. We could have had Gruden if they had not botched it up. I don't believe for a second that he just called his agent and was told he's not interested. I find it funny that damn good Coaches can get black-listed, like Tressel, for trying to cover something that isn't really an infraction to begin with....while AD's like Hart can get away with bold-faced lies to EVERYONE.

Where was Gary Patterson in all of this? He should have been the second one on the list and pursued vigorously.
That's what I fault the AD and Cheek. But in the end, Jones does meet the main criteria....winning.

If he can avoid the urge to bring most of his staff, and go out and get an all-star staff, that can recruit, then he can make up for his perceived shortcomings.

UC made a great hire, hired a guy from a better conference, with a more impressive resume' than their previous coach in ONE day. That's great work by their administration.

I would have picked TT. But, I told my wife last night. After all we have been through. All the names from Gruden to TT. I only heard Butch Jones one time and said nope and went on. Even then I think someone was confused between CBJ abd Butch Davis. Then Stong takes the job and then backs out. CBJ takes the Colorado job then backs out. It just seems a long shot given everything that we end up with CBJ.

With that being said I told her.

This was all set up by Neyland himself.
He made sure we got the one we needed.
The best coach out of all of them.

Can't spell bUTch without UT.

He will win a NC.

Because Gruden doesn't want to coach college. Why is that so hard to understand? Some people think Tommy Tuberville is better only because we didn't get/want him.Tuberville sucks You say don't flame like your not trying to start **** when in fact that's exactly what your doing. Who cares if Cincy fans are making fun of us? Why is that a concern to us? Their Cincinnati and we're Tennessee why would should we care what they think? Damn you people suck
