Did Grant get released from Celtics or just not getting to play?

Came to post the same thing. Stevens is a great coach. Williams has a good plus minus. Tonight it was even better than some of the starters. Putting in 19 minutes of work in a big playoff win shows exactly what kind of work he's doing.

Yes I saw him get extended minuets last night. Glad my initial concern was wrong. I just had not seen him in any games that I tuned in to and was expecting him to be getting good minuets base on last season.

I wouldn't ever base minutes in the NBA on how some performed in college. The Celtics are very deep and have a ton of young talent. The fact that Grant is getting extended minutes in the playoffs is a good sign for his future. He got selected by a great team in regards to opportunity for a championship, which means fewer minutes for rookies because their window is now.

It will be great for Grant in the long run because the Celtics are an elite organization and Brad Stevens is a hell of a coach. Grant's development will probably be much better here than it would in many other places he could have landed.

The biggest key with Grant going to the Celtics is that they don't -need- him to be more than he currently is. You're right, his development there will be more patient and they knew that drafting him. In many ways, he's pro-ready (IQ, team defense, role, strength, etc) and in many other ways they can afford to let him grow for a few seasons (shooting, play-making, etc.).

Right now Grant isn't a priority, with Smart taking over most of Gordon Hayward's minutes and Robert Williams getting more time as a defensive presence. He got more minutes and more points in the previous round and will probably get more chances going ahead, especially if he can get hot from deep. 76ers kept stretching the defense to guard him and it gave Tatum room to work inside.

+13 tonight end of the 3rd quarter(best +/- on either roster). Just hit a 3 and has a block in 13 minutes.

13.4mpg and about to go down after tonight's 7.

I love Grant as much as anyone else, but the people acting like he's been on a tear or is some kind of six-man wizard are mistaken.

FWIW, their other three 2019 draft picks have gotten 12 minutes total in this series (in blowout wins).

It's okay to cheer on an unorthodox rookie carving out a role on a playoff bench.

Did I say he’s on a tear? No. 13.4 MPG as a non-lottery pick rookie in the Eastern Conference semi-finals is good. I’ve said this many times but unless you are a Zion or Ja Morant level talent rookies don’t get big playoff minutes.

Grant has played well all things considered, and he’s gotten solid minutes considering the circumstances.

Oh, you of all people, I know you weren't making that implication. Maybe I'm wrong, but I was getting the sense that SOME are overhyping him.

“Of all people”? You’re not wrong. He and others have been hyping the production. GW might be a major contributor some day. It’s just not today

Hyping the production? That’s just false. It IS good that Grant has averaged double digit minutes in this series. Not even Langford their lottery pick has gotten that.

I have never said he will be a consistent starter or all-star or anything of the sort. I think Grant’s role is a career role player but thats what most of the NBA is anyway. You can have a long, lucrative career that way.

I just don’t understand the amount of so called “Vol fans” on here who go out of the way to knock him and criticize him as much as some of you all do. It makes no sense to me.

Admittedly I watch very very little nba but follow box scores and have watched game 7.

I had assumed the majority of Grant williams minutes in the first 6 games of this series came in the 2nd and 3rd quarters and when grant didn’t play at all the first 3 quarters tonight I assumed he wasn’t going to play.

but grant played some huge crunch time minutes in the 4th quarter. Had some good defensive moments I thought.

Surely that’s odd in terms of when his minutes have come ??
