He got kicked out of school for felony drug trafficking but a Superior Court Judge ruled that he should be back on the team. It was a shocker to the GA Tech president. He can even suit up this weekend.

It sends that proverbial message to our kids: Be an athlete and you can get away with anything. Like U-T said: "Only in America". What ashame.

"I feel compelled to say that this decision will send shockwaves through college athletics programs around the country," Braine said. "Playing college football, especially at a school like Georgia Tech, is a privilege, not a right."

Tru dat.

"Fulton County Superior Court Judge Gino Brogdon heard the case Monday and ruled Tuesday that Tech's refusal to allow Houston back on the team was "arbitrary and strikingly dissimilar to the school's treatment of other similarly situated athletes who have been accused of breaking the law."

The shame would have been to have forgotten "Innocent before Guilty"

This is just more evidence of power being taking out of the hands of those who should be making the decisions. Letting the inmates run the asylum. Very Scary.

There must have been enough evidence for the coach and the administration to kick him off the team. Many universities would have tried to cover it up and "swept it under the rug". At least Georgia Tech is taking a strong stance. I wonder if UT would have done the same?

Animals running the farm is a familiar theme in our society today...the heroes are the Iversons, Bryants, etc. who can get away with anything because they entertain us...never thought I would live to see the day when we take athleticism over character!!! :disappointed:

Evidence is nothing until adjudicated in a court of law, it's nothing except opinion, hearsay, etc. No one is going to sweep a federal investigation and indictment under any rug.

As far as UT is concerned, or MO is to suspend until the courts have decided. Not kick them off unless outside of the law, the player has fanned his :moon2: at team rules.

I understand what you are saying in legal terms, but I would welcome more universities to take stronger stands, even with athletes. I am so tired of select people in our society getting special treatment, especially if you have the money.

OK, am I missing something here? Since when does a court have the authority over a football coach about who can and can't play? Or a university for that matter?

I swear, our country is being held hostage by judges who don't understand their job duty.

We are not talking about innocence or guilt from a criminal standpoint.

There is no "right" to be on the team. Players can be kicked off even if they have committed no crime. While we don't know all the details, it is interesting that a court system can dictate the decision making inside the athletic department with regard to controlling the team.

Exactly. It's way, way beyond whether or not the kid can play. The court has no legal jurisdiction or power to make such a decision; and they certainly don't have the authority to enfore it legally.

Of course, they do it all the time.
