Different Mindset of Coaching?

Fair enough. But let's remember that 1 year was plenty of time for a majority to jump on the Dooley train and for the AD to award him a big contract extension with a buyout we will still be paying off for years to come. Lots of evaluations are made after 1 season.

And IIRC, ND was so thrilled with Charlie Weis' first year (9-3?) that they extended his contract and upped the buyout to $10mil.

Lots of evaluations are made on the data available. They will not be as accurate as evaluations made with more data (such as 3-5 years of coaching) but doing the analysis is still justified.

Did you really just list a poor evaluation after one year to validate your evaluation in the first year?

That's really the card you want to play at this point in your argument?

So your position is that, since Dooley was poorly evaluated, by folks like you*, that no one else should be evaluated? Makes about as much sense as anything you write here.

You are aware however that many coaches do get extensions and raises after their first year, right? I suppose you think every program around is foolish for doing so? Or do you only believe in positive evaluations?

The fact of the matter is, this is big time athletics. Lots of money is changing hands. Judgements will be made whether it makes you happy or not. Freebie years of zero consequence aren't realistic.

Dooley came in with the cupbords bare. His recruiting is speaking for itself, as to what he plans to do about it. What else do people want?

So, your point is? You quoted a post I made while saying not to judge CDD after one year?

But back to my point... You listed a poor evaluation after year one to validate year-1 evaluations? Then, when it's pointed out, you drag out ANOTHER poor (what you thought to be) evaluation in year-1.

Well, you're consistent, if nothing else. Carry on.

Yeah, I think what we are seeing is that Butch Jones is a solid, but average coach. He's probably not going to overachieve. If he gets better players here, we'll win more games, but he probably isn't going to give us much of an added advantage with his coaching.
How can you honestly say that? We have a fourth string true freshman QB throwing to the likes of Josh Smith.

Don't everyone jump off the ButchWagon just yet. I'm still almost as pissed about Sat as I was when the game ended & this loss will sting forever but we can't abandon him now! I think this team was so poorly coached & poorly disciplined for so long it will take a while to rid them of those habits. These seniors have been thru a lot & they've done some good things but I'm just as glad they're almost through. If some of our '14 class can come in & play immediately that will help, but I doubt we'll be much better next year than this year! I'm not being Debbie Downer but trying to face reality. Maybe they'll prove me wrong! I hope so. GO VOLS!!

17 or 18 4-star recruits in this upcoming class and a similar number for 2015 will improve our coaching immensely.

That, and the light coming on for one or both of our young QBs in the days ahead. For better or worse, the offense we're committed to requires better than average skill and production from the signal caller. We'll go as far as our qb takes us.

Evidenced by the fact that the staff is not recruiting a qb for this class, they must think the qb of the future is on campus.

We're talking about his whole career. He's taken over successful teams and never quite matched their high water mark from the season before (edit: my mistake, I forgot about his last year at CMU, which was better than Kelly ever achieved). And here, he hasn't changed much from what we had last year.

You don't seem to like assessments of coaches. Maybe you should stay off this board for a couple of years, until you feel enough time has passed that you can stomach someone critiquing your guy.

Let's see last year the offense had everyone from this year except: Patterson, Hunter, Rivera, Bray. Should we consider that?

Last year 5-7. Any notable wins? Ummm None that I remember. This year oh yea South Carolina.

Last year starting QB Bray did he get injured, oh no. This year Worley oh yea he got injured and the 2nd string was hurt, and the third string was hurt. This year the 4th string QB is starting.

Last year Vandy 41, Tennessee 18. This year 14-10.

Last year rushing offense. I believed that sucked!! This year don't think so.

So I guess you're correct this year is about the same as last year.

PS Defense last year. Didn't exist.

This year although not good better than last year.

Last year How many Freshmen were depended on? This year 12+.

The SEC may not be the place for Butch Jones and his Cincinnati staff.....he talks a good game, but has yet to prove any ability to coach in the SEC...he's possibly a better band leader, however
