Heard he was an All-American in practice however could not translate that to the court. Was hoping the he would stick it out. Hope is not a plan. Guess he did not like his meeting with Barnes.

Unfortunately - he will figure it out somewhere else.
We all need to get used to this. If players even get an inkling they aren’t going to get their expected playing time or if there is talk of being recruited over, they are gone. (And for the ones who had a good year, they might be gone if someone brings a better NIL deal.) This is where college sports is folks. Might as well get used to it or find other outlets. It is what it is.

If, in fact Barnes had an input in Freddie’s departure, I’ll never question a hall of fame coach who consistently wins 25 plus games a year plus conference championships, SEC Tourneys and gets us to March madness yearly.

Freddie Buckets seemed 1/2 step slow in an up tempo game, don't think he was 100 percent the first half of the season, but he didn't seem like a 2 that could drive to the basket or an undersized 3 with an uncanny ability to score from the perimeter, just never found a niche to slide into, he will do well at a mid major on the east coast, maybe with a former Barnes assistant somewhere
Getting to the basket seemed to be his one discernable skill in the limited time he did get. 10-16 shooting from 2, and most of thise were drives to the rim.

I also don't think you'll see him landing at a mid-major. I think he'll find a home at an ACC school closer to home. Wake Forest, NC St., Clemson, Virginia Tech...someone like that.

Not surprised at all. He wants to play immediately. Was hoping he would stick it out, I do feel he had some upside and could turn to a player to help us next year. To be honest, I wished he would have stayed. Best of luck to him wherever he goes.

I can't imagine with so many vets leaving that Barnes would want Dilly to leave even if he's developing slower than expected. Surely it's a decision Dilly made, right? For some reason, maybe he just couldn't hack it here. More competitive and faster paced than he expected? Who knows. I wouldn't mind seeing where he would've been next season but I didn't see him enough to get attached to him. Just strange considering most the people in the front of the line are gone. Wish I had the inside scoop.

Name some since there are "a lot" of them.
Are you serious? What coach have you been watching the last several years? He’s notoriously hard on his players, especially if you make a mistake defensively. Name a young player he hasn’t done this to. Even his veterans will get pulled if they aren’t pulling their weight or making mistakes defensively. Name a player he HASNT pulled at some time for making a mistake on the court.

Of course, offensively he seems to be ok with just chucking the ball all over the court.

He can’t.
Even the smallest criticism of Barnes gets your panties all in a twist doesn’t it? This isn’t even a criticism. He has very high expectations and routinely pulls players who make mistakes defensively or aren’t playing up to his standard defensively. I’m not sure I can think of a player I can confidently say he hasn’t pulled at some time for making a mistake defensively.

Yes, I was serious about you naming some of the "a lot", of 5 stars you claimed he has wasted at UT. WTF? Scroll back to review your claim

Routinely? Are you facking serious? You don't routinely pull players winning 25+ games/year. His regular rotation is about 8 players. Has been forever. Name the players he's been pulling all these years.....🤡like

You can’t be making the 2nd most NIL on the team for 1.5 years doing nothing on the court and expect to still have a spot.

His money will go to someone in the portal who’s ready to play.
This is question I hadn't thought of, and maybe I just don't understand how it works (this month).

Say you're a local sporting goods store and part of your NIL contribution is hiring (sponsoring?) a player to be a spokesperson, events person, and appear in commercials for you.

If he's sitting on the bench most games, and not injured, as a sponsor/contributor you're not getting your money's worth because his Name and current playing Image have lost value.

What can the contributor do? Is there a contract? Could that contract specify that if the player is playing fewer than x-minutes per game... or not maintaining a minimum level of scoring/rebounding/assists/steals... that the contract is null and void?

Do you think it was "suggested" to him to transfer?
Or has NIL made that gray area into something black & white? I wonder if now those conversations might go something like...

"Your play hasn't recouped the investment made in you when you first arrived. Now, if you were playing only for me, and were willing to put in the work, I would work with you to develop you and help you reach your potential before you graduate.

But, of course, you've been paid by businesses and people in our community to perform up to a certain level. And now they say they aren't getting their money's worth from your level of play.

So, I can fix things so that you don't have to pay them back, nor get your car repossessed. But you'll have to be out of town by ________.

I'm sorry it ended this way. But remember... in the real world, you'd be paying back every dime--with interest--or else waking up in the ER."

Santi coming back and playing awful really hurt his development. Would have liked for Rick to be forced to play him so hopefully he could learn and develop throughout the year. Frustrating to see all these 4 or 5 stars come in and not even get an opportunity to fail in games, but I get it.
Not trying to be a smart Alec but how many 4 and 5 stars have we had come in a not play their first 2 seasons? There’s probably more than I can think of but off the top of my head Freddie (who was an early enrollee I think) and BHH who had reclassified and clearly wasn’t ready. DJ Burn was a senior in high school his freshman year too.

So he wasn’t able to beat out Santi even though he played awful as you put it? What’s that say about Freddie? Bottom line is FD wasn’t good enough to take the job. Development is a lot on the personal player.

He looked nervous and scared to make a mistake, like most players who play for Rick Barnes. He will pull you for your first error unless you’re a starting guy - and even then (@Jonas Aidoo).

Fake News………bigly

Best of luck FD - hate to see you go but that’s the new college athletics.

Personally, I think players need game playing time to fully develop. FD didn’t earn any regular PT after being an early enrollee. Maybe there’s a better place for him - hope he finds it.

Sucks to lose him. I'm sure the the fascitis issues played a large part how he looked on the court in his limited playtime. Hope he does well at his next stop.
