Diretv vs ABC

You must have not gotten the right antenna. I live pretty far out and I get every local channel in the Knoxville area via antenna.

I live in a canyon in the mountains. It's a lot flatter in Tenn. Very beautiful back there, just smaller mountains, etc.

Or doesn't agree, as is the case here.

As a DTV customer, I can promise you that your agreement says (paraphrasing) "channel lineup subject to change." DTV doesn't get to dictate the price of a certain station's broadcast fees. They can negotiate, but not dictate. If they can't come to an agreement, they can't show the station's content.

Yea, it probably does say "subject to change", so yea I'm pushing it a bit. But when they say they provide ALL local channels as part of a "Package" they need to be providing ALL local channels.

And I certainly do have the right to fire them and hire another provider. And that is what I'll do the end of this month. So I'll just complain and vote with my wallet.

So, just to be clear, if a local station demanded that DTV pay 50 bux per subscriber, you'd want DTV to just add 50 bux to your bill rather than negotiate a reasonable fee? You'd consider that better than temporarily doing without that station?

Two sides to that coin.... So if Directv would only pay 50 cents but charged $8 for the service....... Would you want to pay $8?

You need to see both sides.

Side Note: My wife was involved in contract negotiations for around 35 years. Some as a contract manager for a large construction company, others as a contract analyst for a law firm specializing in contract law. I've been involved in contract negotiations as part of my job for around 30 years. We retired a few years ago and got our first experience negotiating a telecommunications contract last year, pro bono for the local golf club.

I'm not saying we know everything about contract law and negotiations, but we're a bit a head of the "average joe" out there.

Wtf does this have anything to do with ABC and DTV being in a contract dispute and a dispute that you say DTV is being childish about? I'm sure you know that you are trying to get the best possible outcome for your company in a negotiation. If DTV has to pay a penny more than they have been, then of course that will get passed on to you. I mean, they are a company.... In the business of making.... Wait for it...... Money.

I will pay ABC what they want if you will stop beating the dead horse.

LOL, I do understand money...... That's why UT foundation hired the team I worked for to manage there money....

Think about it..... Dish Network, Comcast, Liberty Communications all signed contracts and offer the local ABC affiliate as well as the PAC-12 network.... Directv is the ONLY holdout.

Why is it that everyone else can make a good net profit and offer these channels, yet Directv can't? Maybe it's not the fee, but the management.

Do you have any reason to believe that's happening, outside of your dislike of DTV?

Yes, see my other comments... All the other local providers are able to provide the programing that Directv isn't willing to pay for.

Do you know when those providers last signed with the station in question? Or are you just assuming that they've already dealt with the price increase?
