Dishonesty in recruiting

I read the entire article but as soon as a realized an OSU commit was going to call out any coach on honesty or integrity, "willful ignorance" was my first thought.

I know all schools bend the rules but I think the deciding factor with many of these high profile kids is where they get the best deal.

I think kids may misinterpret what the coaches say sometimes too. "You are a top priority for us" may equal "You are our #1" in the mind of a high schooler. Not saying kids don't get lied to but we are dealing with emotional teenagers that have the top college football coaches in the country falling all over themselves to earn their commitment. I can easily see how a young kid could start to think more and more of himself.

I don't know if that happened here and I'm not trying to disparage EJ or TL but I'm just saying.

Like many teenagers, they think they have it all figured out and really they don't know poop.

Yep. It's a vicious cycle. I knew everything when I was 17. Had it all figured out. I learned and so will they. Heck, I'm still learning and when you stop learning is when you start losing at life.

I honestly can see this also.
But I also know any/all schools do say whatever needed and I get it.
Many of these kids lead schools on also. They have their favorite from day 1 and soak in all the amenities while tossing out nuggets that keep many schools believing.
The schools exaggerate, the recruits exaggerate.
The schools make money off the kids, the kids get a free degree (if they choose to stay) worth more than we admit. Then they use us as a stepping stone for one of the most ridiculously over paying jobs on the planet.
It's a dirty business that even the "losers" end up with a minimum free year of college. Which most parents would kill for.

It is what is. The only WTF part is any member of the game pretending to be offended or outraged at the injustice. Especially if they choose Meyer.

And the media and recruiting sites help to fuel it by writing pieces like the one in the OP. Like they don't know exactly what coaches do to earn those teenager's and their parent's signatures.

Bigger issue in recruiting is WEED. There is no uniform policy across the NCAA or even the SEC as to punishment. Some schools its 2 strikes, suspend third strike dismissed. Some its 4 and 5, and some, there is no dismissal at all (ala) Tim Williams Alabama LB who said "I had multiple failed tests while in college".. If you think this isn't talked about during recruiting youre nuts!! Players talk.

I'm not saying it didn't help to have his sister on the staff at UT, but Ashley is a UT alum and is more than qualified for the position she holds. It's not like UT created some mythical position for her. She has earned her way and it is insulting to a UT alum and a VFL to suggest otherwise.

Why again is our fan base banging against our own, Im not orange shade but the first reaction is to blame our coaching staff. I dont get it.

Because it is easier for fans to believe that it was a coaches fault, rather than accept the fact that the player was a better fit elsewhere.

Agreed.
In the Ashley case, it was more of a win/win, icing on the cake.
Extra motives? Probably. But definitely not making a waitress 'zar' of student cryogenic studies.

Emory could be talking about us but I doubt Trevor is. JMO! Our number one guy right now is Adrian Martinez regardless with another QB committed and our staff has made that known pretty clearly it seems to everyone.

Pretty sure Jones wasn't talking about our staff. Jones said it was "very early in the recruiting process. UT was his no. 1 for a long time until his dream school and Meyer got in his ear. But he still loved Butch and UT.

Ashley getting a job she was very qualified for helped no doubt however if you think that was the only reason you are extremely ignorant about what was going on around Trey. He was at USJ which has many influential UT people. Rusty Bradley was the coach there and he has ties to UT since his Dad coached here. Most importantly the family advisor on a lot of college stuff was USJ, UT, and NFL vet Trey Teague.
