Disturbing incident last night at work......

I was not sure where to post this, so I figured I would post this in this forum since it is generally the same people.

Well to set things up, a five year old got a hold of pistol last night and shot himself through the chest.

He was taken to Columbus Children's Hospital where he later expired.

After every thing transpired the mother and father wanted to see their son before he was taken away.

As you can imagine the scene was terrible, but something dad sad really disturbed me.

And I quote, "He died before he had his first blow job.". One of the officers in the room with me later commented how he wanted to pistol whip the father.

I know your mind is going every where in a moment of hurt and grief....but................

I guess this is more of a rant than any thing......it really has bothered me a lot and I have seen a lot of crazy stuff.

Perhaps someone can explain........:dunno:
It appears the wrecklessness he showed by not having the gun locked up when a child is in the house is the same kind of wrecklessness his mouth displays.I hate people like that.It probably explains why some states such as Tennessee don't have half enough foster homes for kids, the numbers are staggering.

Sorry you had to experience that OE. The world is a screwed up place. I must say that, otherwise I am speechless.

This may sound odd, but I am glad, to a certain point, that I was apart of the overall experience.

I experienced/learned something I would have never been exposed to otherwise.

This guys comment is a reflection on the parent's ability to raise children responisibly (which may explain how a 5 year old got his hands on a gun that should have been secured and out of reach).

I will preface this by saying I do not have a child, but have known a few people that have lost children.

The last thing that can possibly be going through your mind is saying the right thing, that does not completely excuse saying an obviously wrong thing, but it at least makes it a bit more understandable. I can't imagine being in the same position or what would run through my head, but it is a traumatic event, and I would hope that that is what caused what would come off as an idiotic and insensitive statement.

OE, you were completely right in saying that the mind is going everywhere, because it is. From what I have experienced secondhand.

With all that being said, it is absolutely UNACCEPTABLE that a gun was located and used by a 5 year old, and the parents should be held accountable.

OE, you have just went through an incident that will stay with you for the rest of your life. The shooting alone would be enough but the father's comments sealed it. Over the years I have left alot of bad memories at the office. But the crimes against children will always go home with me. I have struggled with it at times, but in the same breath after almost twenty years its why I still do what I do. You just have to find a coping mechanism that works for you. As for why people do or say what they do...I gave up trying to figure that out awhile ago. It can drive you crazy at times but you just have to realize that there are just some bad people in this world. I know this may all sound too simple, but it works for me. Just remember to concentrate on the ones you can help and use those you couldn't as a lightning rod! Stay strong and if there is something you wish to discuss I am only a click away.

Dad was wearing an empty holster around his waste when every one showed up to the house.

I don't see how you could control yourself in that situation.

:salute:

It may sound silly, but you have to remember it is not our choice on how to handle the situation, that is why we have a court system.

Not to be whatever, but last year we got a mom who scalded the lower half of her 18th month old because he would not quit crying.

She claimed he fell in, right................

Lower body specifically on the hind legs and buttocks........yeah lady..........

Sorry, I doubt you people want to hear this crap.
