Ditching the smartphone

Where can you still test it? I only took it once as a teen. Scored 140 ...ditto on the massive drug use before growing up, family, Christ, several severe head traumas...

Edit...definitely not trying to be "that guy" or get in an internet pissing contest...I am no Rhodes scholar.

In fact, despite a 140 IQ, many moons ago, and being honored at Duke university for breaking 1000 on the SAT as a 12 year old, I dropped out of HS after football season was over in 11th grade and started a family. I got a GED immediately, but never walked with my HS class. I tried to go to college at night but couldn't keep it up working construction. I have had to educate myself for the last 20 years by reading voraciously...and pursuing the things that interest me. That's why I am interested in retesting...I want to see how well I have kept up or not. I have been around some truly brilliant people in my youth in spelling bees and the math team, as well as adults. I know i am not Einstein...I really have no regrets though. God has been very good to me.
Just didnt want to come across as a knowit or something. I really would like to see just for fun how far I have regressed, I thought IQ being a quotient was your mean score divided by your age, if thats the case I think my score may be much lower now...it would be very much geared towards 20 to 22 year olds...

I was tested the first time when I was still in elementary school, turned out I was dyslexic and had what they now call ADD. I wasn't hyper, but I had trouble focusing because my mind wanders easily, anyway they told my parents I was a borderline genius, which is a real joke to me, if I was so smart I wouldn't have done all the monumentally stupid things I have done. The highest I ever scored was a 166 when I was a teenager.

I too love to read, but now it is super hard for me to focus for very long, so I don't read near as much as I used to. The dyslexia is also worse now. I know I have done a lot of danage to my mind.

As far as testing goes there are several good sites that you can take a good IQ test on. I think the last one I did a few years ago was on a paid site, I can't remember for sure, but I think it was the Mensa site..I scored a 144 if I remember correctly. I doubt I could break 125 now.

Been thinking about it for awhile but I think I'm about ready to go back in time with a flip phone. I hate those people that are on their smartphones 24/7 and sadly I've become one of those people..lol...looking at a Kyrocera DuraXV flip phone. Military grade rugged phone with a few nice bells & whistles but nothing amazing. This way it'll limit my "online" time to my tablet at home after "family time" Anyone else made the switch back?

I commend you for doing this. Honestly, there are a LOT of people who should be doing this, my sister comes to mind. If the first thing you do in the morning when you wake up, and the last thing you do before you go to bed is check Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. then perhaps you should seriously be reconsidering your priorities in life. In your personal life if someone truly means something to you then you're picking up the phone, dialing their number, and actually talking to them. Anything outside of that is pure entertainment and most likely complete bs.

Here is a review of some newer flip phones:

Thought about it a few years ago, but decided will power was a better option. There is no reason to not have a computer in your pocket. Getting rid of Facebook gave me a couple hours a day, and avoiding the football forum (sorry freak) nets me at least an hour. The phone isn't the problem, priorities are.

But if you can’t use the phone responsibily, taking it away from yourself is still a good alternative. Just like how you shouldn’t keep alcohol in your home if you know you have a drinking problem.

People say I have a drinking problem, but I have no problem drinking at all

I've an iPhone 5. I've always used it judiciously. Not being a SocMed junkie, it does not tempt me as it does others. It's a tool, a device which I use when I need to do so... Ack! I am reminded of "Guns don't commit crimes. People commit crimes. Some use guns while doing so."

It's a tool like anything else.

I don't do social media, unless you voy t volnation. If and when I do use facebook or one of them, it will be for my business. I do have a game I play bit it doesn't rule my life.

I use the calculator function as much as anything.

If it did get to be a problem I would get rid of it.

I do see how it takes over people's lives. They walk around like zombies staring at it constantly.

Oh, I do use mine to play music on the jobsite. That's probably 60% of what I use mine for.

I can't blame or fault someone that is doing somethi f that they feel improves their quality of life.
