Do Grads of other Tenn. Colleges Root for the Vols?

Nope. Not a chance. Not one of those schools alums would ever pull for UT. Trust me...I know.
Here to prove you wrong. I’ve been a UT fan since the 60s but due to circumstances I matriculated at Memphis State and then UTCHS in Memphis. I pull for Memphis unless they play Tennessee. For the life of me I can’t understand the animosity for Memphis by the majority of folks on this forum. They have never been close to being as successful as UT.

Born and raised in TN. Sewanee grad, but VFL.
Serious question…. What did you do in your spare time there? It’s a beautiful place, but damn…. It’s in the middle of nowhere.

My daughter was thinking about going there and playing basketball so we went down, talked to the coach and toured campus.
I didn’t realize that students that excelled academically wore gowns. As we were leaving, two guys crossed the road in front of us and I rolled the window down and said “Hey! Harry Potter, where’s Dumbledore?”

I thought my daughter would laugh, but she was embarrassed and was hiding her face as we drove off.

I attended a small college in Eastern Tennessee and naturally became a Vol fan after living in the area shortly after college. Being a Vol fan and discussing all things Tennessee is part of the culture and community of the area. Everyone wears Orange on Big Orange Fridays. Churches and Small groups host watch parties. You can hear the cannons go off in Knoxville. The radio stations talk about the teams. And their is orange everywhere. Over time as you fall in love with the area, which has alot to do with my positive college experience, you become engrained to love the Vols and take pride in the team. Once you attend a game its then a wrap. There is no going back.

Murvul or Marvul. I am a native Tennessean but not a native Murvulian. Originally from Middle Tennessee, I knew when I moved here how to pronounce Murvul.
My wife was Murvul Rebel, class of '72. Her family leaned toward Vandy (dad was from Nash) before I met her in Knoxville and Volified her. 😉

When UTC merged with UT in 1969 there was a huge little brother complex in Chattanooga for a long time. I think time has healed that feeling and most Moc fans now are also Vol fans. Never made any sense to me except for basketball since it's the only sport that there is any level of competitiveness. We went to a Joint Alumni meeting right before the football game this year and everything was hunky dory between the 2 alumni bases.

I have been of the opinion that you should support 2 schools, your alma mater and the Flagship campus of the state you reside in. The Flagship is one of the most important institutions in any state bringing millions of dollars of exposure to the state. And yes I believed that for the 25 years I lived in Georgia.:)
I finally found you! LOL, I thought I was the only one who thought this way...

I 100% agree with you - you should have two schools - your alma mater and the flagship program WHERE YOU LIVE.

It drives me nuts the number of Georgia fans that surround me. They don't pay taxes to Georgia. They don't live in Georgia. They never attended a school in Georgia. They haven't lived in Georgia in over 25 years, yet they consider it 'home'? What the heck? If I ask you if you are going 'home'...that place is in TENNESSEE!

So...I'm assuming you were a dog fan until coming home to TN?

If only Tennessee alumni rooted for the Vols, we would be similar to Vandy. I personally know far more avid Vols fans that did not go to school there than those that did. It's a home state thing. Somewhere like TX is another matter where you have 5-6 power 5 teams. I would guess it's more of a regional thing there.

I assume people connected with Division 1-A programs like Memphis and Vanderbilt don’t. Just curious if grads of other schools that are not Division 1-A in football like Belmont, ETSU, MTSU, UT South, UT Martin, Austin Peay, etc. root for and attend Vols games? Are they welcomed by Vols fans even though they have connections to other schools?
Class of 88 at UTC but a VFL. Grew up watching Johnny Majors and still have a soft spot for him.

The setting is wonderful for those who prefer a small community with familiarity. Everyone knows everyone. But with that comes a lot of conversations. As for the spare time, it's a college on a mountain. If you aren't studying, or working to complete a scholastic task, you're either participating in the community, hiking the trails, driving to Nashville or Chattanooga ... or you're at a party. Lots of parties. Work hard, play hard kind of environment. Less so than it once was, but the spirit isn't gone quite yet.

And you aren't the first person to throw a Harry Potter joke at someone on campus, I can promise you that.

I was a football walk-on at MTSU and a 1971 Graduate, I have been a 54 year Season Ticket holder at UT and have only missed 3 games in that time.

Martin and Chattanooga would I believe. Don't they receive University of Tennessee degrees? Aren't they basically satellite locations or branches of UTK?
Mine (UTC) says University of Tennessee and you can't tell the difference as far as I know. Of course that was during the civil war so take it for what it's worth.

MTSU is “division 1” in football. They are actually FBS.

UTC has pockets of Vols fans but many UTC grads do not cheer for UTK. I see just as many Bama and UGA caps and shirts as UTK.

UTC is not a satellite of UTC. UT does a pretty terrible job of operating as a system. Each campus is very different and there are very few connections beyond the name.

The teaching is superior at UTC, although it will not remain that way if the current Provost has his way. Research and sports are stronger at UTK.
By what metric?

Didn't graduate from another TN school, but just across the border at University of North Alabama. Those were some good years, as the Vols beat bama three of the four years I was there. Was awesome wearing my orange around campus and watching the reaction of the tide and tiger fans. As far as allegiance, I never cheered for anyone other than The Big Orange! Very few of my high school class went to UT, but most were fans regardless of where they went to college.

Nobody ever, ever welcomes Belmont Football fans. It's almost like they're non-existent.
