Do Vols Have What It Takes To Win The SEC???

Its the truth. Even if Florida loses to Auburn, it STILL controls its own destiny in the SECE. Not saying UF doesn't want to win, but other than national championship consideration, the game is not all that meangingful to whehter Florida plays in Atlanta this year or where Florida ends up in January.

And, should Florida win on Saturday, then that is pretty much it as to SECE because it is VERY unlikely that Florida would lose to both UGA and SC.

For once, the Florida/UT game, which everyone always says is the make or break game for the SECE, really may turn out to be just that.

Should Florida beat the War Eagle Tigers, and face them later in the SECCG I would consider their chances of beating LSU or Auburn twice in one season slim as well. That is the reality that LG must face.

I've never understood the alleged kernel of wisdom in such a statement. I don't think its that it is inherently hard to beat the same team twice. I just think that in the upper echelons of the SEC, its hard to beat a team. Period.

I think that the VOLS have what it takes to win the SEC, if they play their best game against every team. I don't think that we played our best against UF, and in a rematch UT would win.

I think the good news for Florida is that UT and Florida are both in the East and therefore there will be no rematch. If Florida and Tennessee played again this weekend I would have an easy time picking the winner.

Amen to that.......I believe we are a good enough team top run the table, but we still have crucial games against Bama,SC,and lets not forget them pesky razorbacks......given the fact that bama and sc arent playing too well, these teams always seem to show up to play us. So we need not overlook those games, but given Fl doesnt lose 2 and we dont make the sec championship, we still make Rose bowl against a big ten team, and thats a helluva a year after last years FLUKE, then with are defense with more experiance next year, Ainge as a heisman candidate and a couple key recruits......IM SMELLING NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP next year (very optimistic guy)GO VOLS:rock: I forgot to to mention a 2cd year for this offense to get a little more familiar with CUTCLIFFE football....so next year is looking like our year although im extremly proud of what they done this year

The original question, which is whether the Vols have what it takes to win the SEC .....

The answer would have to be no, at least right now, because you don't have a win over UF and you need that to control your destiny in the SECE.
you are correct, but as to the question of is this team capable of competeing at an SEC championship level, the answer is yes. We lost the capability to actually play for it by getting beat by Florida...
All good points, but this is 2006, and those seasons outcomes have no impact on this season. Just because UF lost to so and so in 2004 doesn't mean its any more likely than if they hadn't lost to so and so in 2004.
 :salute:

Playing a team twice is hard...i don't care who it is....but you can write LSU off. LSU needs Auburn to lose three times, and they would need to beat ARK and have them lose two other times as well...also possible, but not likely. the only two games left on their schedule that they could/should lose would be TN and LSU.

So, in short, if Auburn loses this weekend, good for Ark...that gives them 3 games on them basically. And even should ARK lose to TN (hopfully:crossfingers: ) they still control their own destiny by beating LSU. the west will come down to the ARK/LSU game...and depending on how the three teams do agains the rest of their schedule...all three teams may have a stake in the Western division based on the outcome of that one game...

If ARK doesn't make it to ATL this year, well, then, i just don't know how that would play out in F'ville.

Florida gets most of its tough games at home next year, including UT. Will be fun to see what Tebow does with the reins 100 % of the time. I predict all out option attack on you next year. Could be REAL ugly for you. You could barely stop it with Air Force's athletes. Imagine what will happen when Tebow and Harvin are running it.

Ouch!

Go ye Mighty Gators!

I suspect that Chief will actually spend time on the Teboption this off season. That's no guarantee on stopping it, but don't expect to run roughshod with that business....

There are a lot of games left to be played in the SEC. There have been some upsets in the SEC already. However, Tenn has some tough games ahead of them (Ala, Ark, LSU); none will be a cake walk. I would also like to say that although the score did not reflect it, I think Fla put it to the Vols.

I do not believe that the Vols will win much less play for the SEC title. I would love to see the Vols go 11 and 1 and play in a good BCS bowl. If by some Fluke in Bizarro world that the Vols make it to the SEC title game, what happens if they lose?????

They get ousted from the BCS!!!!!!!!!!!

But I think that it is really premature to discuss can or will the Vols win the SEC. The fact is they screwed the pooch by losing to FLA. How many times in the past are the Vols playing catch and hoping that Fla gets knocked off or GA gets knocked off?

Irrelevent...the fact that UF COULD face AU twice this season, the 2nd being the SEECG would mean they didn't lose 2 and UT was still on the outside looking in with no chance at a conference title.

You better hope so because I garauntee that UT puts 100+ rushing on the stat sheet next year.

On the contrary, very relevant. If UT wins out and Florida loses in the SEC championship game (assuming one loss during the season) and UT takes their BCS bowl spot. If UT ends up in the SEC championship game and happens to drop that contest, they are headed to the Citrus or Cotton Bowl.

If Florida wins all the way to the SECCG but then loses, and UT wins out to there as well, unless Florida gets utterly crushed by 30 points or more, then it would be a travesty to fork over their BCS spot to UT.

I really think that, like I said, it would take a crushing defeat of Florida to happen.

At any rate, there's about 9 billion permutations of what can happen between now and then anyway.

Hence the (assuming Florida has one loss during the season) LG. If they both win out, both will play in the BCS regardless of the outcome of the SECCG.

The Vols only lost by 11 in the 2001 SECCG, and that's exactly what happened to them. For some reason, I doubt you thought it was such a travesty at that time.

We already has a loss before the SECCG. We're talking about Florida going 12-0 and then losing in the SECCG.
