Do We Have Hope....

When it comes to D1 football, or any level sport for that matter, hope and luck are the only 2 things that differentiate duds from champs.
You take hope and luck. I'll take talent and desire and beat you every time.

You would win everyday of the week and twice on Sundays. However, a little bit of luck doesn't hurt every now and then. See: Tennessee vs. Arkansas '98.

Look at the rosters of those two teams. The more talented squad won.

Absolutely, but you can't say that there wasn't a little luck involved.

Arkansas fans have even admitted to me that there was way too much time left in the game to think that this fumble just gave the game away. It wasn't like the guy fumbled into the endzone. It only took 3 carries from Travis Henry to get from the 46-yard line to the 1-yard line.

Had he not fumbled, Arkansas would have punted the ball 2 plays later and the Vols would have moved the 45 or so yards needed to get into field goal range and kicked the game winning field goal to win 25-24.

Either way its a W.

Hope is great, but if you watched especially the South Carolina game with any objectivity whatsoever, you knew we probably didn't have the talent on defense to win the SEC. Further injuries on defense and the loss of Ainge pretty much sealed the deal on the last 2 games.

I would say that the performances against Alabama and SC really fueled my ongoing doubts with where this program is headed, and that the LSU and Arkansas games help me put the car in drive. For all of the improvements this season mirrors 2004 a little too much for my taste. The only game that UT played for 4 quarters was the Cal game.
