Some will take this as sour grapes - but im not sure we want Tee right now. The guy has not been coaching that long and has not been recruiting the south at a level we need right now. On some level this seemed like a Chuck hire again...

I would love for him to continue to develop and come to UT when we can truly upgrade his position and pay him some cash.

I don't know if we NEED him but he would have brought a lot to the table. If a guy can come from the west coast and take a 5 star athlete out of our backyard in Nashville then he is a big time recruiter.

The sad thing about this whole deal is I really think Tee wanted to coach here. I have a bad feeling he meet with CBJ and CBJ could not recruit a guy that wanted to be at Tennessee, to come to Tennessee.

Without reacting quickly think about what the OP is saying here for a second. What has Tee really proven from a recruiting or coaching standpoint?

Point 1: Tee has done a great job recruiting at USC, but he didn't bring those same quality of players to UK when he was an assistant coach there. How much of that recruiting success is due to the school he is at now as opposed to Tee himself? USC, Los Angeles, Hollywood are all big selling points regardless of who is doing the selling.

Point 2: Clearly he didn't bring in top flight guys to UK, so did he coach them up at all while he was there? That debatable...certainly not significant enough to blow anyone away.

My point in this is not to tear down Tee...just simply to point out the savior like image that seems to have made on this board and around VolNation may not reflect what is actually there.

I don't think that is true. Tee just moved his family across the country a year ago, and this was probably a family decision. I can't believe people are ripping him for putting family first.

I understand he is still young and unproven in years. However dude is killing it right now! And in recruiting you only have right now! As far as coaching that really matters in other conferences but SEC is a players league. Need players not coaches.

It's ok to be a little butthurt. I am too. This is definitely sour grapes though. What most likely happened: Tee gets offer, decides it may be a good time to consider coming back to Knoxville. His wife doesn't like the sound of it, but wants him to listen to UT's offer and go check it out for herself. She gets the first look at Knoxville and goes...ugh....yuck. Tee realizes , as much as he loves UT and the memories he has, he has to keep his wife and kids happy. I don't blame him. It's not all about the job. His family has to live there. Knoxville has some nice suburbs , but for a city girl, it's not LA. It sucks, but if he doesn't really wanna be here. I don't want him here. Commitment to his players. What a load of bs.

Im not upset about it at all - id just rather him come over as an OC in a few years than as a WR now

Come on.... This wasnt a decision to move here or move somewhere else. It was between move here or stay put. Bottom line is Tee doesn't want to move his family again in less than a years time.

This has no baring on CBJ's recruiting ability.

I am not sure how good of a coach T is but he is known for his recruiting. I would think we could find someone equally or better at coaching but the great recruiters are hard to come by.

So your not worried about CBJ ability to close on deals? I am no 4* at cincy? Before you say well thats cincy. Vandy never got 4* Franklin has them as SOP there now.

If you can recruit and close you can do it anywhere. Its about the man selling himself and what he can do.

USC per Rivals:

Recruiting class rank #1
Five star recruits committed - 5
Commits ranked #1 in the country - 3
Four star recruits - too many to mention

No we don't want Tee.

Yea I think alot of posters on here are missing the point in that we wanted Tee as a recruiter more so than as a coach !!! Coaching a position would have just been icing on the cake !!

So maybe he realized this too. Perhaps he didn't see his coaching development here where he wanted it to go. People are going as far as saying he is going to be our OC one day. Imho I really don't see him being anywhere near that level. He needs to move on to a smaller school and get OC experience first.

Tee is a young guy coming into his prime, who has a reputation RIGHT NOW as one of the hottest recruiters in the NCAA, who would instantly be the most noted assistant coach on the staff, who is already looked at as the next Rodney Gardner or Trooper Taylor in terms of recruiting ability, who's young and hungry to establish a growing name for himself....and also won a NC as a player here.

But yeah, sure, the time isn't right.

USC was loading up on 4 and 5 stars and recruiting top players out of TN long before Tee Martin ever went to work there. Tee will always be one of my favorite players and I hold no animosity towards him for staying in LA. If he feels like USC is the place for him then let him stay out there.

To me, it seems as if he had his mind made up before he got here. The way he said I made a commitment to my players and I've got a good thing here at SC are telling IMO. I think he used this trip as a chance to visit his other son and old friends, nothing more.

You still think I'm wrong after Tee's comments? He said he wanted to look in CBJ eyes talk to him and see what he had planned for UT. Tee didn't like what he heard.

I think we should let Tee do a little more training at USC. And once he learns the ropes there, then he might be able to join us as a grad assistant or some such...
