Do we really want Tee right now anyways?

USC per Rivals:

Recruiting class rank #1
Five star recruits committed - 5
Commits ranked #1 in the country - 3
Four star recruits - too many to mention

No we don't want Tee.

Tee is 110% the reason they have that class.

Eyeroll

Im not saying he didnt contribute, but thats not all his either.

Tee is a young guy coming into his prime, who has a reputation RIGHT NOW as one of the hottest recruiters in the NCAA, who would instantly be the most noted assistant coach on the staff, who is already looked at as the next Rodney Gardner or Trooper Taylor in terms of recruiting ability, who's young and hungry to establish a growing name for himself....and also won a NC as a player here.

But yeah, sure, the time isn't right.

Funny, i didnt know he had this reputation until after we lost him..... Funny how that works!

If hes that hot, call him back as a HC in a couple years after BJ gives us too much teeth

Why take interview then? $ no could have done
that out west with other schools.

Im not tee, but i can think of a lot of reasons to take the interview.

Personlly, If UT called me to do my profession for the school, id probably listen to see if anything interesting was there knowing that there was a miniscule chance of it being better than my current gig.

Wanting it to be best does not always mean it is best.

I think it comes down to a lot of us see it as a personal thing. I believe coaches see this as a business.

Stevo have you read Low on espn? Sounds like Tee wanted to come to Tennessee. Didn't like what he heard from CBJ.

With this Tee deal does anyone else think something was up with Peyton. CBJ press conference he even said Peyton was on him hard to take Colorado job quick. You would have to think Peyton trying to save Tennessee there?

All I know is that my interest in Tee (and this might go for Tennessee) would have been strictly on the kids he could pull to us through recruiting. I don't think Kiffin would have thought it a big deal to let Tee go elsewhere and get another WR coach. It's the same for us---he might have more value considering his name and his recruiting ability but the true "coaching" ability is questionable. For us, the fact that Tee played here and has ties here is a huge deal. I still question his whole "coaching" ability though---and I never realized it until I did some checking but USC's prolific receiving duo (Lee and Woods) were not even recruited by Tee at all. If anyone has a list of talent Tee has pulled there I'd love to see it...My point is Lee and Woods are both freakishly talented so how much "coaching" could Tee do with them? Likewise, at his Kentucky stop with talent that's not top shelf--how much of an effect did his "coaching" have...? Someone brought up Randall Cobb...but again I'd use Lee and Woods as an example. It's like screwing up steak...aside from burning it you can't really **** it up it's still going to be a tasty piece of meat no matter what you do...But seriously, good luck to Tee...

Boosters including Peyton were, outside the public eye, trying to force Gruden on Hart.

That is why.

Tee was chomping at the bit to come here and work for Gruden and get paid (money for assistants).

He went ahead and interviewed and declined to send a message.

You still think I'm wrong after Tee's comments? He said he wanted to look in CBJ eyes talk to him and see what he had planned for UT. Tee didn't like what he heard.

That part was not in Chris Low's article. That is from your assumption.

Some will take this as sour grapes - but im not sure we want Tee right now. The guy has not been coaching that long and has not been recruiting the south at a level we need right now. On some level this seemed like a Chuck hire again...

I would love for him to continue to develop and come to UT when we can truly upgrade his position and pay him some cash.

Although I would like to see him here some day, I'm kind of glad that he didn't accept the offer. UT is too unstable a program right now. Would hate to see him get caught up in all the muck surrounding football.

This is a point i wish i would have included in the OP.

The downside to a passionate fanbase is that it turns on coaches quickly when things go wrong. It would suck to lose Tee after only a couple years due to bad timing.

He has plenty of time left as a coach, lets bring him in when it is right.

Kiffin is going nowhere at least to the end of next season or until the scholly reductions run their course - unless he commits AA violations.

More to the point, there is a big differece IMHO. If Tee were to come to back to his alma mater, you would think that he would want it to be for the long run and under better cirumstances. As disgruntled as some of the fan base is, why should he subject himself to that? Just think of the offensive tweets that he received in declining the offer. What if UT continues to lose?

Of course, after CBJ agreed to a 6 yr deal in the MOU and given UT's financial condition, the university can't afford to let the coaching staff go until maybe the final year of his or their contract(s). So in that sense, we're all probably in it for the long haul regardless of what happens on the playing field or win/loss column.

I would say the same thing with Manning. I don't know why Peyton would ever come back to coach at UT like some think or would like. As highly regarded as he is, things can only go downhill from there.

First things first.
When did Tee become this great recruiter? He got a top recruit from TN to commit to SC. Big deal. Have you heard any in-state recruits opinions of TN under dooley? He prob sympathized with a recruit who felt slighted by his home state. Do you think Tee Martin could understand that? He is also recruiting for USC, who turns down multiple 4*s every year.....even under sanctions.
Second.
If Tee's marriage is the issue then they are in trouble anyway, because coaches dont last long, especially TN transplants in So Cal. I mean kiffin had to let his own dad go this yr, and he is much more proven than Tee Martin.
Lastly.
The WR core, as a whole, at UT is better than SC. Tee prob knew hunter, patterson, and bray would all leave and his job would be difficult to say the least and cause his stock to decline. Just guessing, but this seems to be what would influence a WR coach the most.
