NOTE: THIS IS NOT A DEFENSE OF CBP....
I love what Thornton's take on hiring a new coach was. Who is going to want to answer to the train wreck that is Mike Hamilton as UTAD. My thoughts are the same.
When guys that have athletic facilities named after them are very displeased and want you out, the end is nigh. Looks like the 'Thunder' is gonna come crashing down on Hamilton. Can't happen soon enough, IMO.

I'd say he hasn't been in Hamilton's corner since the Fulmer debacle. He does have a point though. Hamilton's reputation has been run through the mud lately. Funny it's taken people so long to realize this guy is a hack , has been a hack and was better at bean counting than making decisions.

Hammy isn't going anywhere for a while at least. He will make the basketball hire and based on that coach and Dooley's success will determine his tenure here.

I'd beg to differ, he's toast from a PR standpoint and that's pretty high on his list for begin a competent AD, which he's never been anyway. If they don't sheetcann this train wreck then there is no hope because the whole thing is ran by nimrods.

Completely agree. It would be utterly foolish to let Hammy stay, much less have him put more fingerprints on this program by hiring a new coach, regardless of sport.

The old saying "the buck stops here" still applies. And IMO that is on the the desk of the AD. Like it or not, he just has to go at this point.

If not, what in the hell would he have to do to get fired?

I'm starting to wonder this myself. Seems like he has already done enough to be long gone but yet he remains.

Not sure if this has been mentioned or not, but I feel that with Cheek handeling the firing, does that not make MH look weak? That is supposed to be his job correct? I could see a case for Cheek making the fire, but I think it still weakens MH. I suppose if MH makes the BBHC hire his job is safe. He needs to go though!

For a while I had heard it was gonna be either Bruce Pearl or MH. Now that we axed Pearl, is Hamilton still on his way out?, or do we give him time and see who he hires to be the next bball coach?

With the multiple debacles over multiple programs on Hamilton's watch, there is only one solution:

FIRE HAMILTON

He has to go.

Hammy staying is bad for UT. I still think it's difficult to get a good coach with him making the calls. And for those that say Cheeks will be heavily involved then maybe they should change Hammys title to be fund raiser director or something and get a real AD that can actually make these decisions.

The word of the day, "TIMING!" We ought to go to the local WalMart and buy Hammy a $10 Quartz/Elgin, because for goodness sakes, he can't tell "Time," and I'm talking 12 o'clock, 3 o'clock, 6 o'clock, 9 o'clock, i.e... the man just does not know what to say, when to say it, and how to say it. Should Fulmer have been gone, maybe, but before the season ended, No. The same for Delmonnica. Why were fans so outgaged at Lame Lane, because of the timing and way it was announced.Go to USC, good luck to you, but the way he did it, bad time, just sucked. Why were people so unreceptive to Dooley at first, THE TIMING. There are a hundred more issues to consider, including all the reports of Hammy, ouch, lying, bad timing. Well, we at Volnation can tell time. We know Spring Back, Fall Forward. We know how to read the good old farmers almanac. We know half past and quarter past, and what the good Old Big Orange Clock is reading is that, " IT IS TIME, TIME, TIME, FOR HAMMY TO GO." The cucko is churning, the the sands are winding down, the big bell in town square is ringing. It is time, "Can you here it?" Am I the only one who is reading the Time? forgive my tirade folks, but goodness, can we have one positive week?

While I'm at it, "Who is going to want to come here with Hammy here?" Dust the tire treads off your back because you will get thrown under the bus. You can "Re-Assign" him somewhere. Vice-President of Hospitality, Director of Tourism, Vice-Chairman of Sports Information, Secretary of Institutional Stability anything but A.D.

I don't think that Hammy could have prevented it, but as soon as he found out at least call a press conference at a decent hour of the day, announce the change and wish him the best. I do give Hammy a pass for the way Kiffin turned out, but who hired the guy?

How do you blame Hamilton for the way Kiffin left?

I have written on this before. I do blame "Summer's Eve" Hamilton for the way Kiffin left. Kiffin did the right thing (believe it or not!) and informed the AD that if ... IF ... Pete Carroll left for the NFL that he would try to be a candidate for the USC job. Hamilton shrugged and went skiing in Colorado. He was there when it was announced and then flew home to start a search. A real AD, or a real manager, would have initiated an immediate inquiry to see who was available. There is a real chance that he would have found a bigger name if he had been proactive instead of reactive. I am not coming down against Dooley. I think he was a stroke of luck. The problem is that it was just luck. There was no plan in place.

I wouldn't. The AD needs a showing of support, even if you don't plan on him being around for years to come, to show some stability in the department. In my opinion, that helps out the coaching search considerably.

Chattanooga Times Free press today quotes Cheek. “This decision is an institutional decision, with counsel and input from many who know and love this university,” Cheek said. “Going forward, I am confident that Mike Hamilton will find the right coach who can build on the foundation created over the past several years. Mike Hamilton has my support. I join him in looking forward to continued successing."

I sure hope that isn't true. Hamilton needs to go!
