Apparently the airlines ran out of gubment money and laid off tens of thousands of employees today. Personally I was tired of being treated like a piece of crap and glad they get a bit of humility finally. I hope each and every one of them has to file for bankruptcy to fix their excesses and bloated executive pay, but I doubt any of the executive branch will ever feel any pain.

I haven't enjoyed flying in a while....pretty much decided that if there is a road to get there, then that's the route for us...they are right there with the IRS

Nope, don't care in the least. I stopped caring about the airlines when they got rid of their standards for flight attendants. Nobody wants to fly with a bunch of old overweight hateful women and a bunch of alphabet people as flight attendants.

Don't think I could ever feel sorry for airlines. I pretty much just expect them to get me from point A to B faster than I can drive. Service beyond rudimentary expectations is non existent.

I've calculated the time once I drive to airport, shuttle to terminal, go through screening, wait at gate to board, then (returning) wait for baggage, shuttle to parking, plus drive home, a trip about 7 hours long is a wash. If layover included, the equivalent time is 10 hours.

I feel terrible for the tens of thousands who lost their job today
I do for some, but the majority of people that lost their jobs were old schoolers that got a nice pension and likely a package to say adios.

Not sure i agree with that assessment. Pensions were mostly stolen in the last round of bankruptcies. But your point is nor completely wrong.

Just curious. Have you ever bought a ticket because of hot flight attendants? I get your point, but if those hateful women were 25 and hot, would it make a difference in your flying habits?

This kind of unemployment in a restricted economy isn't good for anyone, and facing an uncertain future is never easy for those who lost their job.

Airlines pretty much treated most passengers like crap in the last 10 years +/-. I for one hated flying. Airlines didn't exactly treat people with love and respect and now that they're losing money hand over fist they want the American public to bail their asses out. Too F'n bad as far as I'm concerned, go join the land of people that work for a living.

Not defending anything, but the adage of 'you get what you pay for ' is pretty true. You can fly across the country for $200. You expect filet mignon with that? Private suite?

And fwiw... my job hasn't really changed in 30 years. My overriding concern is a simple math equation: landings = takeoffs.
