Do You Feel Sorry for the Airlines?

Don't think I could ever feel sorry for airlines. I pretty much just expect them to get me from point A to B faster than I can drive. Service beyond rudimentary expectations is non existent.

I've calculated the time once I drive to airport, shuttle to terminal, go through screening, wait at gate to board, then (returning) wait for baggage, shuttle to parking, plus drive home, a trip about 7 hours long is a wash. If layover included, the equivalent time is 10 hours.
I'm right there with you. I would say 8 hours is that breakeven point, as well.

Not defending anything, but the adage of 'you get what you pay for ' is pretty true. You can fly across the country for $200. You expect filet mignon with that? Private suite?

And fwiw... my job hasn't really changed in 30 years. My overriding concern is a simple math equation: landings = takeoffs.
All planes land... one way or the other.

I don’t understand the hate people have for airlines. I fly often (not so much in the last six months) and don’t see why people get so upset. You’d think the airlines were torturing people on their planes.

All in all the service has improved drastically just through the phone apps alone. They hardly ever lose a bag these days. And they get you from point a to point b safer than ever before.

I’ve found that if you are friendly to the airline employees, they are friendly to you. Like almost everything else in life.

The companies absolutely not the CEO's and their inflated salaries as well as prices need to be brought back to earth. For the people working yes to a point, but that ends because they've had months to save and prepare while many got kicked out the door with no time to prepare.

Lol!
Fly international and it's all 60 year old women and old limp wristed guys.
My last two flights were about 1.5 hour short domestic flights. I'll give credit where its due neither crew was bad and each had one very good looking FA on the crew.

Apparently the airlines ran out of gubment money and laid off tens of thousands of employees today. Personally I was tired of being treated like a piece of crap and glad they get a bit of humility finally. I hope each and every one of them has to file for bankruptcy to fix their excesses and bloated executive pay, but I doubt any of the executive branch will ever feel any pain.

first step in the green new deal. doh!!!!

This is such a stupid thing to say. The people who are losing their jobs are not the people you have a grievance with.

The TSA isn’t the reason for tiny ass seats and constant over booking

I fit in the seats just fine but do wish for a little more leg room. If you want a bigger seat, buy a business class or first class ticket.

I am a small guy. I have no problem. But the amount of **** that airlines do to actively piss off customers is amazing. Over booking being my chief complaint. And I have never been bumped bc of my status with Delta. But it’s ********.

I understand the over booking. I’ve never personally been bumped but I have many, many times taken vouchers to wait on the next flight.

I really don’t understand the vitriol for airlines. They don’t normally do anything to piss me off. Go to airport. Go through security. Get on plane. Get to destination safely.

People seem generally grumpy when they travel. Some people still think it’s the 1960’s and if you’re an airline traveler people are going to be kissing your ass all day.

The only issue I currently have with the airlines is how many FAs have become mask nazis. On a flight today they reached over me to wake up a guy whose mask had slipped below his nose and tell him to adjust it.

I think over booking is a lot. Bag fees that didn’t exist for decades until recently. Viewed as just a money grab.

I do agree, that in general, people just hate traveling and they are the easy target.

The best seats on a Boeing 737 are in Economy Plus exit row seats. Those are Rows 7 and 21, Seats C and D. They are not recliners, but there is so much space... it's heavenly. I will take that any day over First Class.

That’s my take. I don’t really like flying much anymore especially for work. Looking forward to flights when I retire though since busting my ass isn’t waiting on landing.

But all in all I’ve mostly been treated in return how I treated them. I tend to have more run ins with idiot passengers than I do flight crew. Even then just breathe and say I’ve only got to deal with your stupid ass for two more hours.

If you hate flying don’t fly. If you fly realize for the next 2 to 3 hours of your life you will be hurtling thru the air at 30,000 ft going 550 mph with a couple of hundred other people in a cramped aluminum tube and plan accordingly.

I find the inconsistency of TSA at airport to airport much more annoying than flight crew.

Now my damn Latina wife who doesn’t fly much and doesn’t really “get it” causes nothing but damn problems when we fly together 🤬. “Honey they really don’t give a **** to explain to you why you are being told to do something take it up with the damn FAA when we land please”
