In order to complete vast sections of the proposed wall at the Mexican border, the government will need to build on large amounts of land owned by private citizens. However, many of these folks don't want to sell their land. Yet, the government can seize their land by eminent domain in exchange for "just compensation".

They can seize land to build simple roads and interstates and we are debating the seizure of land to build a wall to protect the country?

Eminent domain is used by all version of government for multitudes of things.

Nope...I'm pro wall but not for eminent domain hopefully the homeowners will protect their own property or open up a bed and breakfast for illegals

If they complain they are probably in cahoots with the drug lords. I'd just put the wall on the northern side of their property and then see if they still hate the US.

How much land are we talking anyways? A sliver for a wall and access road.

Our borders are the only place I think our government should have the right to seize property and only the amount necessary to protect our country . This is where I fall into the hypocrite category. I’m against big government being able to take from us but in the case of our borders I believe they should be able to have what they need to defend them .

If the property owners are patriotic Americans interested in helping to protect their country from invading 3rd world scum then they should have no problem selling the land. If not, screw them.
If they're truly loyal to the state shouldn't they just donate their lands for the common good?

Same. I don’t agree with it but realize there are sometimes circumstances that make it necessary. The amount paid should be above the appraised value as well as recoup partial taxes for the duration the owner has owned and paid taxes on the land.

You realize your talking about an 8 inch wide steel wall and a 8ft road next to it that's at the end of their property?

Are said properties of any real value to the owners, other than the fact it's their property. In other words are the properties generating income, farm land, grazing for cattle?

Interstates actually serve the purpose for which they are intended.

Make the American landowners a generous deal for those that are willing. For those that are not, extend the wall onto the Mexico side. That’s how Mexico can help pay for it since they can’t get their s*** 💩 in a pile and handle their business on their side of the border.

I bet 80% of the border is already state or federally owned land already. There is already wall/barrier across 1/3 of the complete border and in Texas the Rio Grande is a natural barrier. And as mentioned, it is a sliver of land.

Most of the wall/barrier is already there and Trump is adding 600 km and upgrading existing. This whole deal is nothing but politics and reminds me of the Keystone pipeline where there was already thousands of miles of pipelines and the outrage.
