I am just wondering if i'm the only person who thinks Bruce Pearl subs to much. I think we have one of the best coaches in the country. I think he is a great recruiter and he has Tennessee heading in the right direction. I do not pretend to think I know more than him. It just feels like he subs to much. It looked like they played better when Tatum, Goins, Williams and Smith where all gone. I'm glad we have three of them back it just seems like there is no continuity now because they are in and out to much.

I think he subs a little too much, but at the same time it's always good to keep your players as fresh as possible. However, it's tough for the five that are out there to get in a good rythem when the coach is always shuffling players in and out.

With 18 possible timeouts during a forty minute televised game and if we are not going to press, the starters should play 30 -35 minutes each.

I have no problem with the subbing personally. Bruce has been successful everywhere he has been. I will trust he will continue to do whats best for this team. He is not like Billy Donovan who continued to try and run on our pressing teams when he could have slowed down the games to post up with his huge team. Noah, Horford, Brewer etc could have poted up in half court every possession. The point is Bruce will adapt because he is not to proud to ditch something. He had cut the rotation with Hall not playing till the incident on new years forced him to be added back.

That is the problem Hall is one of the better players.

i agree with joevol1 with all the time outs and breaks, when you have a major drop off in talent, the game against lsu he took out wayne and put s pearl in ,when we are getting outrebounded every game it matters, they are young ,at their age i played games all day with out the breaks they get

Tony Jones has done the subbing ever since Pearl has been here. So he is the one to blame if anyone thinks the rotation should be altered, not Pearl.

I tend to think that most players could (or should) be able to handle more minutes.

But a separate issue, beyond whether or not UT is subbing too much, is whether or not it is substituting at a good time. Sometimes I wonder why the coaches take players out who seem to be on a roll.

Normally at this point in the season a team would have their rotations set and every player would know their role and be comfortable with it. With our midseason shake-up, and gradual return of some players we are unstable. Until Prince plays with some intelligence, and Hopson consistently averages 16+ we will be up and down.

I think after he cut the rotation that he subs properly. When we were playing 10 and 11, we clearly subbed too much. He is actually allowing people to play more than a minute or two at a time now.

This year i will say yes, because he was unable to get the rotation down because 4 guys got in trouble... He usually cuts it down just before SEC play to 8 or 9...

I only think he is subbing too much when I see Woolridge, McBee, or Pearl jog over to the scorer's table from the bench.

THose guys where there when the 4 got in trouble, u cant just let the 3 of them back in without a whole lot of punishment, hench the reason McBee and Pearl play alot...

first post! yes he does sub too much, this is not hockey, they don't need a breather every 2 minutes. I remember him subbing for Lofton after he made a few threes in a row. Ride the hot hand Bruce. Let the boys play.

Nope. Every team hes ever had he always went ten-twelve deep. Always has fresh legs on the floor. Hes used this recipe with all his conf championship teams, all his NCAA tourny teams, his sweet 16 teams, and his D-2 National title team. He knows what the hell hes doing, and fans second guessing him and his success.
202-80, pretty good in just 9 years.

Pearl has not gone 10-12 deep with any team he has had at UT. He basically went 7 deep his first year, 9 deep the following year, 9 deep the following year, and 9 deep this year. He has occasionally played 10 guys in the pre-conference schedule but has always cut the rotation by the time the team hit the conference schedule. So before insulting every person that dares to criticize your hero Pearl, have some clue what you're talking about.

It has hurt them at times this year. It's a big drop off from the starters to the bench, exception is Kenny Hall, other than him they really have limited options.

Sorry bro, that's not an excuse. As the head coach you are in charge of everything. If the subbing isn't working out it is the head coach's fault. Bruce would even admit. If that is a problem (not saying it is) then Pearl has to step in and change it up. You can' just throw the blame on an assistant coach.

Yes, if we are not going to press and push the ball, no need to sub as much as we do. It is really a problem when they sub with Pearl, McBee, and Bone on the floor at the same time.
