How many think that it is a bad idea for a G5 team to be guaranteed a spot in a NY6 bowl? Perception is reality and the perception is that it would be a slap in the face for a P5 program to play in this game. THERE IS NO UPSIDE OR BENEFIT FOR THE P5 TEAM! It could even be viewed as a punishment game for teams that have failed to perform up to expectations. That is why the G5 teams do so well in these games historically. No incentive, hoardes of players sitting the game out. Just a bad idea all around.

Yea I don’t see why a power 5 team would get up for that game. Literally lose, lose. If you win, nobody cares bc you beat a ****** team. If you lose, everybody cares bc you lost to a ****** team. Stupid.

if not in playoffs, bowl games don't mean much nor does it matter on opponent. Its why there is no value for kids playing in those games if they are intending to move on to the NFL. They have absolutely nothing to gain by playing and could negatively impact their NFL future with injuries.

Cotton Bowl is now the Birmingham Bowl of the NY6 (stolen from reddit)

To be fair to the bowl, the Cotton Bowl only does this once every 3 years (specifically during the season that the Fiesta Bowl and Peach Bowl host the semifinal games).

During the other seasons, the highest ranked Group of 5 Champion goes to the either the Peach Bowl or the Fiesta Bowl. (Pretty much it’s a rotation to make sure each of those bowls has to host the highest ranked Group of 5 Champion once over a three year period.)

I would argue against this at least for this year. This program has sucked for so long. An Orange or Sugar bowl appearance and win would do absolute wonders for us right now.

But I will say I can't be angry at kids for looking out for their future. And won't be if some decide to do it. I understand that.

The thing I do like about a 12 team playoff is nobody has to deal with their best players sitting out of the FREAKING NEW YEARS 6! Last year was absolutely ridiculous, specifically the Pitt vs Michigan State game. Kenny Pickett and Kenneth Walker both sit out in an elite bowl neither of those programs frequently go to. Snooze fest of a game as a result.

You don't know what you're talking about. The game is played in AT&T Stadium, in Arlington, Texas. That's the home of The Dallas Cowboys.

Is that the same Dallas Cowboys that are 3-10 in the NFL playoffs since 1998 when the BCS started?

I really don’t mind a G5 team getting a shot in a NY6 bowl, the games have been competitive more often than not.

11 wins definitely helps the program.. but that isn't a reason for a kid to play in a bowl that is not for a championship...
