Dodging the Cotton Bowl bullet

How many think that it is a bad idea for a G5 team to be guaranteed a spot in a NY6 bowl? Perception is reality and the perception is that it would be a slap in the face for a P5 program to play in this game. THERE IS NO UPSIDE OR BENEFIT FOR THE P5 TEAM! It could even be viewed as a punishment game for teams that have failed to perform up to expectations. That is why the G5 teams do so well in these games historically. No incentive, hoardes of players sitting the game out. Just a bad idea all around.

If it helps level the playing field iver time its a good thing, for players, fans and the sport.

if not in playoffs, bowl games don't mean much nor does it matter on opponent. Its why there is no value for kids playing in those games if they are intending to move on to the NFL. They have absolutely nothing to gain by playing and could negatively impact their NFL future with injuries.

Used to kids loved the gifts now it seems like access has hurt that value. It seems similar to NFL players playing in the Pro Bowl because the pay day seemed worth it. Now it's a joke and isn't that good.

Texas is a terrible place to even visit and Dallas is a big reason why.

Lived in coppell for 5 years and enjoyed it more than any part of Middle Tennessee that I’ve lived. They actually have the infrastructure needed to support a densely populated area unlike the majority of Middle TN. There’s a reason the DFW metro area is one of the most populated areas in the US and it’s not because “Texas is a terrible place to even visit and Dallas is a big reason why.”

Texas sucks. Nothing more than California’s little brother.

Have you been to New Orleans lately? I have and it’s REALLY gone downhill.

Not since 2014 but my main reason for ranking it higher is the cultural experience. It’s a place like no other if you enjoy party/festive environments. I believe you when you say it’s gone downhill recently, so many major cities in our country are following that same trajectory

Was there two months ago at a convention. Was uncomfortable even walking down Canal St and near the French Qtr unless we were in a big group. Really trashy scuz hanging out all over the place. Love the restaurants but I would never go back unless I absolutely have to.

We aren’t beating Clemson without Hooker and a terrible hurt defense. The cotton would have been a blessing and 11 wins.

There were people on here who thought Vanderbilt would be a tough game without Hooker.

So you would rather go play Tulane in a game that will excite nobody versus going to Miami and at least take on a name program? Win or lose, I’ll take the Orange Bowl.

gifts can't match NIL or an NFL future..

Well the NIL is new but your point remains. 20-30 years ago getting watches, game system, cash for the bowl was everything but now most seem to already have access to that stuff. There was also a natural affinity finish what you started. The commitment level is different from the new generation.

Absolutely. Better fit the program. Then get smacked on National tv.
