Just how badly has the Vandy loss affected the interest in the Ky game. I have been talking to long-time Vol fans all week at work and the consensus is -the game is not important. Is this accurate ( my sample) or does the game matter? I am sure that I will get angry if we lose ( I have been angry almost every weekend lately) but I hadn't even seen what time KO is til tonight and I may not watch it even if I am home. That stupid fake-field goal call is going to burn a long time, it was staggeringly stupid and changed my opinion of Butch. Maybe I am being too tough on Butch but I had to go back to the fake punt that Bill Battle called in the Ga game that blew up in his face . He never recovered from that. That is the only bonehead play I can compare it with. WTF? That call changed to whole feel of the game.

Every game is important, no matter the circumstances. Not to mention that if we lose, Ohio state will then be the only team to never lose 8 games in a season. There's a lot at stake here. More than one might originally think.

That was a blown fake play by CBJ, but one bad call does not make or break a coach. Two more years, imo, then, maybe changes.

Sorry Doyle H. :shades:, or others, 5 years is too long.

I'd agree all games are important on some level or another, but one play isn't going to change my opinion on a coach. I'll say this: a loss to Kentucky would change my opinion of Butch (not majorly but slightly)---this is the type of game he must win. We are struggling for relevancy and trying to get this program back. Losing to Kentucky is a damning thing---just ask Dooley.

Everyone needs to chill out about the 4th down fake. Granted I wish we would haven chosen a different play (Palardy throwing for 20 yards is..... risky to say the least), but going for the fake was a smart decision. Butch said we needed a TD on that drive and he was absolutely right. If we settle for the field goal there Vandy still wins 14-13.

Sounds like your "long-time Vol fan" friends aren't really big fans. This is a huge game. TN has never lost 8 games in a single season. I don't want to start now.

I will be watching because UT is playing football. Also, I want to see if this team will play hard with nothing to play for. Can this staff motivate these kids under these circumstances?

He said that after the game, what coach wouldn't have said that after they had lost by 4 points?

Wrong. That failed fake field goal was like pumping adrenaline into Vandy. Plus they picked up a couple of first downs and flipped field position. Also, it's not one fake field goal this staff has made questionable decisions all year long.

I'd rather not lose to Kentucky, that's for sure. But I have to admit if we lose it's not going to flip me out like losing 2 years ago did. I'm become a bit too used to this.

Plus a win isn't going to make me feel much better either.

The Vandy game was a "must win" to keep bowl eligibility alive and we couldn't get it done. The Kentucky game is important to get at least a little momentum going into the off season. I fear that a loss to Kentucky will place our great recruiting class at risk.

If we cant beat the worst team in the SEC then guess what that makes us the worst team in the SEC thats something to play for.

I care, but to be honest I'm not going to the game (a group of us had planned to at one time). But it definitely matters. We need to win and end on a positive note.

This game matters in the short term only. If we lose to UK it will be bad for VN. The freak outs and meltdowns will be biblical. A loss to UK will not change my opinion of Butch or the team. Now if this was Butchs 3rd year and we had an established group of upperclassmen leading the offense and defense and we lost to UK, I would say that would be huge. This is year one with the toughest schedule in school history and many young players.

Yes I care about the game but I am more concerned about progress than wins or losses at this point.

I think our recruiting class will be ok.

Edted for content.
