Does CCM get an excuse for next year?

Nope, if he dont get it done next year, he should be fired. Dooley 2.0 in my opinion..

If Martin gets fired, then it will be difficult to get a new coach; unless Pearl returns.

The reason that I say it would be difficult to get a new coach is because, Stokes, Jordon, and Mayman will all be gone. That is three starters that will need to be replaced by the new coaching staff. Also, the commitments that we may have in place in January, may bail on us because Martin was fired.

So, 2015 would be a horrible season for U.T. basketball...
New coach and three new starters and possibly the loss of the comittments that we had held all season bailed on us.

You guys are brutal.

A little historical perspective would remind everyone that Tennessee basketball has not been a consistent NCAA tournament team over the years. We had a nice run with Pearl, but the way his tenure ended actually set us back a little ... and expectations for Cuonzo (IMO) have been a little ridiculous.

I see this year as his first year to really show us what he can do, but in NO way do I consider it a "do or die" year for Cuonzo. He would have to lay a great big turd for me to be ready to see him fired.

Let's look at this objectively. To last year's "middling" team we add Maymon (who may or may not be 100%) and Hubbs (a freshman with a lot of hype ... do our big recruits ever really meet expectations?). AND we lose Golden, our starting (and only) point guard. Those making Elite 8 reservations should contact me about oceanfront property in Arizona.

If I had one criticism of Cuonzo, it would be in talent evaluation and recruiting. But again, we need to see what happens with this class and next year's class to really get a good indication of where we're heading.

And we have one now that Golden is gone? No, he was far and away our best option.

I think you miss understand the question..do they make the tourney yes! Are they horrible without Golden? No. And like I said if we had a true PG WE Could make a run. What part did I claim we were better?

When Golden played badly, we were nearly assured of losing. And, we were not good in the games he missed, like that ugly home blowout loss to UGA. We don't have an experienced true PG to replace him. So, until the team proves otherwise, I don't see how we can be expected to be better without him. If someone seizes the opportunity and plays well at PG, I'll change my opinion.

I agree, just don't think his departure is a season killer all I am saying.

they made the tourney every year under green and pearl. take out a terrible coach in peterson, and i bet UT could have made the tourney nearly the entire decade.

Doesn't really matter.
It took years and years of mediocrity to unseat Fulmer.
This is bball.
Cuonzo will finish his contract regardless.
If Butch fills the coffers, you may see a change in 2016 if Zo isn't winning the big ones.

Jerry Green and Bruce Pearl started out with much better rosters. It's not even close.

Jerry Green had Tony Harris, Vincent Yarborough, CJ Black, etc.

Bruce Pearl inherited arguably the best shooter in NCAA history and a future NBA point guard.

That said, it's time to make the dance for Martin.

Gounzo is a goner. He can't coach a lick and his staff as a whole is bottom of SEC. We need someone with fire in his belly, Gounzo should take a page from Butch. This experiment will be over after this year thankfully. We did not hire someone to try and get us to the NIT.

Looks like Chris Chiozza is leaning to Florida. Expected to make an announcement Tuesday.

I was wondering how long it would take for the "We are not a basketball school and should give ccm much longer to win post" to start coming in.
