I see. I'll catch the next race, surely I'll be able to figure it out by actually watching it. :)

Thanks for the information!

I remember seeing something a couple of years ago where Jeff Gordon took a few laps in an F1 car and when he got out he said it was odd because in NASCAR it was a matter of what the car would do, but in the F1 car it was more a matter of what his body could take.

it was he an Montoya in that event.

Gordon actually had lap times good enough to have qualified for the previous years US Grand Prix.

Nascar might be harder because it's about saving your tires. What competitive racer wants to save their equipment? They also go against 42 other cars instead of 15 or 20.

tires are crucial to every race car, no matter the series. it's always about tires. i don't buy that one.

i could maybe buy the 43 drivers on the track, but...

in NASCAR, you can have more cars on the track because there is more give and take with rubbing on each other. open wheel cars don't have the same luxury of being able to run in close packs and rubbing wheels. they need more space to be able to stay off each other. ask Kenny Brack what happens when two open wheel cars touch tires with each other.

I did drive mini sprints for a while and my car builder was a guy out of Hendersonville Tenn. I have taken a couple rides because of open wheel.

You obviously don't know much about F1. And that's ok. As doozer wrote, tires are what's between you and the road no matter what race. How you wear them down and the grip in alot of cases means out fast you can take a corner or brake when required. This is important in every type of street racing from F1, NASCAR to two kids racing on their bicycles down Cumberland Ave.
