Does signing two questionable posts mean no confidence in our post players?

The fact that Martin is bringing in two questionable post players for next season indicates little confidence in our returning players or just an attempt to add bodies for depth at that position? I expected one post player to be signed, but didn't expect two marginal players with the excellent posts available next recruiting class. Your thoughts?

Most likely just trying to fill spots with the bodys he could get at this late date. Then again he may suck as a recruiter and thinks these are the best he can do???? Only time will tell.

I don't know...it's just one extra big guy. Miller could possibly play the PF position by '12-13. I don't really see an issue, but I do overlook things sometimes.

It more has to do with Bruce randomly deciding to not sign post guys. We'd be in the same numbers crunch with Bruce, not sure why he didnt go after any.

I thought he may have wanted to save some of the schollys for following year when higher rated players where on the board. Oh well.

This could very well come back to bite us in the ass. Honestly I have no idea what Cuonzo is thinking on some of these guys. Dwight Miller is a scrub that was told he would never play at Pitt and averaged 8pts 5rbs in JUCO and Yemi didnt even start in HIGH SCHOOL.

I agree. We only lose 2 or 3 next year. Not sure if that means we'll only have 2 or 3 schollys.

If we didn't pick up any big men this class, we'd have 6 'ships to offer the '12 class. One big man = 5 'ships, two big men = 4 'ships.

Since I assume we're all talking about big men, I don't see what the big deal is. Were you guys expecting to get more than four PFs/Cs for '12?

We are going to be terrible next year regardless, if he brought in 5 solid guys (not necessarily post players), it could help us substantially in the rebuilding process.

Thank you...

Also neither of the project big men we took have the type of problems that Childress had coming in, and in truth they seem to have more potential upside than Brian Williams.

Getting recruited over at Pitt does not mean you suck, and listening to the Coach describe him it sounds like he needs a taskmaster which is just what Martin can provide.

Yemi? Guy is a mystery. From Nigeria and sat behind guys in high school who are HIGH D1 prospects. It is not like he was at Red Bank sitting on the bench, he was at Word of God. I do not know if you are ignorant and are being deceitful when you describe him.

Both guys are great at giving us bodies for rebounds and someone to push Hall and Maymon and Woolridge to do work, but neither one will give Stokes and Poythress a moments pause when they decide where they can play right away.

If we will have 4 schollys next year to offer then that's not as bad as I was anticipating. 4 is much better than 2.

Where do the 4 scholarships for next year come from?

I counted 4. Would you mind revealing the correct number if I'm wrong?

EDIT: I don't think I initially counted Maymon. If it's 3, that changes things a bit. Unless Martin yanks McBee's like you and I feel he should.

I can see only 3 assuming there are no scholarship reductions as a result of the NCAA sanctions. If they take one away, we could have only two. If Woolridge is allowed an additional year, it would be one.

Tatum Sr.
Woolridge Sr.

Maymon Jr.
Hall Jr.
McBee Jr.
Miller Jr.

Golden So.
McRae So.

Richardson Fr.
Washpun Fr.
Cheivous Fr.
Yemi something Fr.

I count 1 schollie left unfilled with 2 leaving after the season = 3 schollies.

Don't see a reason to give our returning players the benefit of the doubt.

Actually, Hall has shown very good post offensive ability. He needs to get stronger and stay out of foul trouble. Maymon, in very limited playing time, showed some post moves, but needs to work on free-throw shooting and finishing around the basket. He is strong enough to be a factor in the post.

They now will have enough kids to actually conduct a practice. Without the 2 bigger kids , they couldn't even run or simulate anything in practice.

Somebody will more than likely jump ship based on not wanting to do the heavy lifting required by Coach Martin. Some will just fade away. I seem to remember the class that came in with Chism was down only to him at the end with the other 4 - Crews, etc. spread to the wind. If any of the 5 don't seem to have what Coach Martin thinks is potential, he can do just what Pitt did to Miller.

I agree. If they don't show any potential to play at this level, it would be best to tell them and have them move to a lower level school after next season. I also agree that he needed practice players, if nothing else for next season.

Leave the management of the BB program to the coach. I am sure he has a plan and multiple contingency plans if things change between now, next year and the next. He is the one who is accountable, knows a lot more about things than us armchair couch potatoes and might have a longer or shorter perspective than us civilians. Let him do his job.
